Now through June 16th first time subscribers can save 50% off their first year of select Microsoft 365 through the Microsoft Home Use Program.*
There's a FAQ at the bottom that indicates it's stackable, I'm guessing this means it's for people taking advantage of the home use program for the first time.
Yes, you can be existing subscriber, but the $50 price is only good for that first year you purchased through the program. Subsequent years it will be at a slightly higher rate.
I like the old program where you can buy a full version of Office 2019 and it was not an annual subscription. Granted it didn't have OneDrive, but if you didn't need it, it was a much better value as you can use it for years without paying any more.
Would jump on this if it wasn't for just a year. Actually the cheapest option for a family if you want to backup your photos with Google Photos retiring it's free tier. Getting office is a nice bonus.

Thanks for the info; that's good enough for me. M365 Family typically goes on sale at around this price around once every 1 to 2 years anyway.

If you are an existing Microsoft 365 Family subscriber:
From the official FAQ:
Q: Can I take advantage of the Home use Program offer if I already have Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Personal installed on my personal device?
A: Yes. If you already have Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Personal, you can still take advantage of this discount and apply it to extend your current Microsoft 365 subscription. Once purchased through Home Use Program, using your current Microsoft account that's associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription, an additional year is added to your existing subscription, and the discounted rate will begin at your existing subscription's annual renewal date.
In plain English:
You are charged $50 right now
Your current subscription period gets extended for a year beyond its expiration date (read: you get an extra year for $50)
Your subscription renews annually starting at the extended renewal date in 2) above at $69.99/year
Hope that helps folks.
Yes, this is a perpetual(? I'm not aware of Microsoft reverifying HUP details, ever) discount: 50% off the 1st year and 30% off every year after that.
Thank you for your interest in the Microsoft Home Use Program.
Unfortunately, based on the email address entered, you are not eligible to participate through your current employer.
Your employer has to be an M365 subscriber for you to be eligible, I believe. I'm not sure why any organization that uses Microsoft Office wouldn't be; standalone site licenses have been dead (not financially sensible) for a long time now.
Curious why people with iphones dont use Apples work apps? Its free and can use your existing iCloud or subscribe to additional iCloud space.
I switched to it for personal use a few years ago on my mac and use on my phone as well. There is a slight learning curve, but for most, those apps should be just as good as office.
Same reasons people still pay for M365 despite Google Apps existing. Office's features are way ahead of everyone else's except Google's collaboration features (I say this as someone who uses M365, Google Apps, and LibreOffice). Also, as far as professionals are concerned, $50/year isn't worth the risk of your resume or an important document not rendering correctly on the recipient's end when you send it somewhere.
