I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

My wife has kept Chase Sapphire Reserve since it was first introduced. Is it best for me to sign up for CSP in branch, transfer the 100k points to her CSR, then close CSP? Then in 4 years open CSR myself for the bonus and close her CSR?
Sounds like you're a candidate for MDD.

P.S. Don't forget to use the referral link to pick up an additional 20K points.

You either do the referral link on-line or you go in to the branch to apply. There is no way to do both.

You can generate a referral link for yourself here - https://www.chase.com/referafrien...epreferred

Value of points on travel cards is much higher if you actually use them for travel rather than cash.

For example a chase non-category card earns 1.5x on, say, costco purchases.

Using PYB or the Chase travel portal with a CSP that's 2.25 cents in rewards for each dollar spent.

Your cards only get you 2 cents in rewards per dollar spent.

For the chase cards earning 2x-5x in categories rather than just 1.5x the value add over your method is even greater.

And if you add in transfering points to hotels or airlines, where you can get 1.5-2.5 cents per point for coach fares and Hyatt rooms, or 4-6 cents per point for business or first class travel, the difference is even bigger.

For example someone getting 5x chase points on a spend, then getting 5 cents PP on a business booking to Europe, is effectively getting 25 percent return on their spend (even if they were only using it for PYB against grocery purchases that'd be between 5 and 7.5% return)

You're getting 2 percent.

Now if you very rarely/never travel... well, PYB still beats your method right now... esp for things you can get into the 3x-5x categories- but it's not quite as drastic and PYB is less flexible than cash.

That said- if you don't travel significantly you can still do better on cash-back alone with a number of options though they require some setup... (for example the Alliant 2.5% card... or BoA cards with Plat Honors where you can get 2.625% on anything and over 5% on a couple of categories)
TU for this explanation! I use these points for transfer to airline points, then booking travel to Europe in prime season at the last moment. That's otherwise easily $2500 per seat basic economy to Greek islands. Business class would be $10k per seat. I save from $6k to $30k per trip this way. Then you have extra savings to book a private yacht Smilie, every summer Smilie.
These cards are not meant to be used as simple cash backs, it is just a waste.

When you do a referral, do both parties get the 20k bonus, or only the person making the referral?

If you get an informed banker, they'll know that they got an internal memo saying it's waived annual fee and $50 grocery credit. They'll show you the terms and conditions and it'll show the waived fee, but some people are saying they got their card and used it in grocery store and the $50 statement credit came thru.

When your friend gets approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you're not the only one who can be rewarded. Here's how it works:

Our Best Offer Ever!
You can earn up to 100,000 bonus points per year. That's 20,000 bonus points when a friend gets approved.*

New!
Your friend will get 100,000 bonus points after they spend $4,000 in the first three months their account is open.

###

I just checked above info in my chase preferred credit account. Not sure if code can be used in branch to get 20k for both.

So I am assuming referral is better than applying in branch - 20K points (referral) > $95 AF fee waiver + $50 grocery credit (branch) . Is this correct ?
