BX has no DRAM cache, hence life is shorter than MX.
This is a DRAM-less based SSD which makes it not as good as the SK Hynix drive. However, unless you are a power user, the average person will not notice the difference in day to day use.
lowest 1tb I ever bought from Amazon

any reason why aside from losing a port and increased risk of failure i wouldn't RAID 2 of the 1tb to get a 2tb for $25 less than the 2tb drive?

What is the downside of this versus an MX500? Was looking for an MX deal today.

This is a great price. Is it better than SK hynix Gold S31 SATA Gen3 2.5 inch Internal SSD recently at $90?

Are there any cons using this drive with a SATAIII to USB adapter to turn it into a external ssd? Or does it need an enclosure?

The con, it doesn't have an enclosure. There you go. More important is which chipset the cable/enclosure supports to take advantage of the speed.

Crucial BX drives, out of all the none dram cache drives, I wouldn't be worried about. They are the most impressive non dram cache drives your gonna find out there.

Life is shorter as someone said if your a power user, meaning. Doing 4K video editing renders every day for the next 5 years. I bet you the crucial BX would survive it by then. Realistically it would be hard to kill one of these for the average person. Plus BX drives have a much nicer controller in them so the lack of a Dram cache doesn't matter that much

Ive never seen the 1TB BX go this cheap before. At least not since the past year. I can't stand how similarly priced to the MX they are. They're not the same. Although not a bad drive. I wouldn't use it for mission critical data like video editing. If your the kinda person who's writing 50-100Gbs a day, this is not the drive for you. Get an nvme drive lol

But if your doing normal things. Only downloading things to it on occasion. This drive is very good. I doubt you would notice a difference between it and an MX as far as performance and snappiness goes. It's drive life for the average user is gonna be about the same. It's when you write like 5-10gb files to it constantly for minutes or hours at a times, this will come to a crawl. But that's unrealistic.

Well the only real difference apart from dram cache being in the MX series, is not a lot. They both read and write data very similarly. The 4K files read writes on both are very solid. And the fact the MX is significantly more expensive than this. I've never seen one of these BX drives go for this price before. I've run several BX drives, they are the best non dram cache drives out there.

The cheaper low end non dram cache drives, if you really want to test them out and see how Dram can help, is do some really big file transfers, like video editing files for example. After a couple Gbs on a cheaper non dram cache drive the read writes will go from let's say 400 down to 80. I've pushed a BX drive in a similar test and it was still consistently hovering around 500mb read writes. I guess you would have to be writing some serious data to slow one down.

If your the kind of person needing to constantly read and write data to an SSD all the time, get a MX series or nvme drive from crucial, Samsung or sk Hynix or something. Mission critical data should be on a more high performance drive

If your trying to get some more storage for a laptop and want to load your movies on there once and keep documents and pictures and only use it whenever, this drive will be just fine and it's a very snappy drive too. I like BX drives
Thanks. Just looking for a drive to give a performance boost to an old laptop that is pretty much just used for basic household stuff. Have a MX in another computer that works great.
