Not taxable -- IRS considers CC sign up bonus a "rebate" on your purchases

This is true. I've received several CC point bonuses over the years and never received any 1099 tax forms for any of them, indicating that those bonuses aren't reportable to the IRS.

Can I downgrade before my 1 year is up to a citi card that doesn't charge $95/fee
o, but you can downgrade once you hit the 1 year mark, so not to pay the 2nd year fee. Moving to the Rewards+ shouldn't reset your Citi bonus timer, but the Double Cash likely would. Don't know about the CC yet.
Quote from my3cents :
Just to verify, this is $800 worth of points, minus $95 annual fee, minus income tax on $800, right? So roughly $500 - $600 after fee and taxes?

I still think it's a good deal, just that the "$800" seems misleading if taken at face value.
No tax on CC signup bonuses - be careful making assumptions on things that you know nothing about, and other people in the community have a good deal of knowledge about.

Now, bonuses received from making credit card referrals are considered taxable income. And if you ever get into bank account signup bonuses, those bonuses are also taxable.

Customer service with Citi has been a nightmare. Points didn't show up in my account. Wait times are 30 plus minutes to get ahold of anyone.

Got approved, spent 4k in the first week. Cashout bonus points and closed account with a refund of $95 fees(if you close within 37 days of fee posted on your card).
Now that's a true bank heist, legally.

Hats up to you.

No. That's just someone making a single quick hit making things harder for those of us who go after the banks on a longer, harder and much more lucrative basis.

I suppose it's best to either use up for statement credits or cash out via check/direct deposit to account right? Is there any way to maximize the points like in Chase case of 25% redeemable for food/statement credits?

"Best" is up to each person. To me, the best way to maximize is to transfer to hotel or airlines. I've just redeemed 100K Emirates Skywards for a 1 way business class ticket to from Dubai from JFK. Redeem 100K pts for cash at .01, that's $1000 and the business class ticket is 3x that.

Either way, I just applied for this card and got approved. NY resident and they pulled Experian. 10K limit, 800+ FICO.

When does the 3-month period begin? When you get approved online? When you first use the card?

Citi customer service is terrible! Applied for this card and received instant approval. Called directly after approval to make sure they were sending the card to my PO Box as the post office does not deliver to my rural address. I already have an existing credit card account using the PO Box. The customer service representative said they'd mail it to the PO Box. Two weeks go by and I call to see where my card is. Transferred twice and finally talked to someone that said it was returned and she would mail it out to the PO Box. On the phone over an hour. So 10 days later I'm still checking the mail for the card. I check my Citcard app and see that they closed my account. Just not worth the time to call again, sit on hold, and have trouble understanding the speech of the representatives. Totally frustrated!

So can anyone confirm whether 80,000 points = $800 or $400. Thanks

Wow, surprised I got declined. 800+ score, only other Citi card I have is the double cash back which I've had for some years now. Last time I signed up for any card was in February and only 3 cards within the last 2.5 years.

Edit: Called the number and the robot told me it was from having too many national accounts open and too recent since opening one. Seems weird since I tend to only do 1 credit card a year for bonuses. My wife got the card with no issue a couple months ago and we alternate signing up for stuff. Maybe its the $45k credit limit I already have?
