Lol

But seriously:

The blade is like 7 or 8 inches in diameter, so that "ham" in this picture is deceiving, because it is not a huge ham like what you see in a deli case.

For bacon, I'd think this is useful, IF you want a somewhat uniform thickness.

Yes, I have this, and got it for uniform cuts of ham.

The best results are when the ham is large, so the ham doesn't move around.

As you near the butt, it tends to get sloppy, because there's no back-plate to uniformly pressure the ham against the blade.

I have cross cut sliced bacon, about 1 "thick" for pan frying with pierogies.

Whatever you cut, feed the blade slowly .... complaints say the motor cannot handle the load, but I cannot imagine that to be problem if you aren't stupid.

Lastly:

The blade is sharp and unforgiving.

I've sliced myself a few times, and I'm no idiot (at least, I'd like to think I'm not).

My downfall is I try to get great slices from the butt, limiting waste. But that's simply not possible.

A man's got to know his limitations Wink

I'd say you should try it for your bacon, and return if it's not too your liking.

You're not going to get a better price than this, today.
Um...my name is Hobart
Yeeeeeppp.

I'm part Ukie, my mom made me learn how to make pierogies .... we call them Varenykie.

Have to use a non stick pan, LOW heat, otherwise the pierogies will stick to a ss pan.

..... fry the bacon, remove from grease, then saute chopped onions in that fat, then remove onions, saute pierogies, then combine all, plate, slap on some sour cream, open a beer, and prepare yourself for Epicurean Heaven 👼

Sadly, many frozen pierogies have very thick dough ..... there are a few Canadian companies that export great pierogies to The States .... difficult to find.

Many Polish and Ukranian churches sell frozen pierogies made by their parishioners, as a Charity for the church ...... so call their priest, and ask Wink

I did not expect to come out from this page thinking if I should stop buying sliced bacon.

Why are so many people using it to slice bacon? Are unsliced bacon much better?

I got this last time it was on sale and use it to cut consistent beef jerky thickness for the dehydrator and it works beautifully for that. Turned a one hour job of cutting down 10lb of bottom round into like 5-10 minutes. Not sure why it gets so much hate. It's an awesome accessory in the kitchen.

Based on the comments, I don't think this is the one for cutting Sourdough bread. Our bread is really difficult to cut, but I will wait for a better unit. Maybe I also need a serrated bladed unit as I read somewhere else. If anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate it.

Its also good for slicing up pieces of meat thin enough to slip under the door to give it to cats on the other side.

Just FYI: https://www.hobartcorp.com/about-us-hobart
Hobart has been making top notch food equipment for more than 100 years.
I always wanted one of their mixers. But my Kitchen aide just won't die.

I did see a Hobart mixer like they use at bakeries and was tempted until I gained my sanity back, Was one of those ~50 gallon sized ones and just looked awesome.

I have a serious question, and it is on something I constantly struggle with comments on this site.

I totally agree with the "what are you like 9 years old?" Question. To me, the person your responded to add no useful information to anything. It was a useless comment.

But then you went on to say that you are considering it for your home made bacon. And those types of comments I don't get.

Who is your intended audience of that statement? What do you want them to do with the information?

To me, I just read it as "I might buy this but I don't know yet.". And that just doesn't pass information.

I assume there will be an inclination to be snarky. It is the internet, so it is easy to assume I'm just being a tool. But, I am really trying to understand why people say things that don't convey anything.

Other person basically covered it and I do get your point. Humans are social animals and like to communicate, even if it adds no value for others. It's a forum for discussion.

I feel like something like Stack Overflow is where people are asking for technical help and you should stick to adding useful info and something like Reddit is for just chatting most of the time. SD kinda falls in the middle for me.

This model is terrible, I bought the rebranded cuisinart version of this which is basically a dull saw blade. Couldn't slice frozen meat for hot pot/shabu shabu worth a darn it was like taking a bread knife to meat, jagged and ragged quarter inch cuts. Ended up buying the Beswood meat slicer on Amazon, so much better! Made a video because I was so adamant that others don't waste your time on this generic slicer model.
