Well, not everybody simply require high quality display or spending over $600 just for getting a higher quality display, isn't it? The problem is that you guys try too hard to portray your requirements or choices over everybody, saying that nobody should do that or those or everybody should do something which you like.
I own this laptop as well as a much higher specced Lenovo Legion with a 100% sRGB screen and honestly love both. They're for different uses really. These 5500U machines are really power efficient and can be easily powered by a 60W car or lithium battery pack PD connection, something that can't be said for the legion and the 230W power brick requirement. For working on the go and coding an shiet, who cares if your Netflix colors don't pop? Give me battery life, amazing power efficiency as well as modern processor muscle all in one low cost package that isn't a wally world EVOO or motile or gateway. Bonus points for Dell's very sturdy aluminum screen cover and robust new hinge design on the Inspiron 15 lines.
You were not pointing out the cons but trying to portray that the screen is completely unusable because it is not color accurate and only 250 nits brightness. If you really wanted to point out the cons, just mention the actual details like Color gamut coverage, brightness and what kind of works can't be done on this which normally I do. But saying words like "It's garbage", "Nobody should Buy this", "You won't be able to look at the display", not really helping a single person here but it is show off of your personal preferences over everything.

I get that's your specific wishes. For every one without touch, someone will complain with the opposite. Take it or wait a day for your next deal alert. No need or help to go public for either class of beggars being choosers. You can rarely find a perfect deal for everything you prefer. Either wait and hope for a unicorn to pop up, pay retail, or compromise.
You can turn the touch screen off in Windows settings, so it's not even a con for having touch capability.

I realize this is now dead... Looking for pretty much this exact build (apparently maybe a better screen?) for my son for college.

How do I know of the screens on these laptops are glossy or matte? He prefers the glossy screen. I do as well.

This had everything we were looking for... Was trying to figure out the screen thing and it sold out.
It's matte. That's actually better for college - he's likely to be in rooms with overhead lightning, and glossy screens are awful in those conditions. It's not a great screen, but it's IPS, with wide viewing angles and decent contrast. Much better than the TN displays typically found on sub-$500 laptops. You'd need to spend at least $700 to get a significantly better screen.

Thanks for the info!
Does that apply for glossy screens that claim to be anti-glare? Seems to me that just probably cuts down on the brightness.

The con of a touchscreen isn't whether it can be disabled, but rather that it drives up the price

I just got this one.... checked a lot of boxes for my son's wishlist for a new laptop for freshman year in college. I am sure some will crush it for the screen or whatever but it seemed like a solid deal?
I can always cancel it if I find out it is terrible. LOL. Thoughts?

FWIW we were looking for a 14" with glossy touchscreen, Ryzen 5, backlit keyboard, at least 8gb ram (yes it is soldered which sucks but..), and at least 256 SSD.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga that's glossy but with an anti-glare coating. It has less glare than some other glossy screens but still way more than a true matte screen like this Inspiron.

I have been looking for a mid-tier laptop since mine has been giving me lots of problems. I saw the deal at $499 for the same computer but decided not go for it. I pulled the trigger last night. Thank you!

You replied to the wrong post. I knew this, and I imagine they did as well.

The one complaining wanted to save the $50'ish screen upcharge, so that doesn't help them anyway. But keep on posting!

im looking to buy a pair of entry level gaming laptops for young kids. Minecraft specs really, so preferably a dedicated graphics card but nothing fancy and preferably around $300. Is that even possible? I dont care about nits or whatever everyone cries about.

Minecraft doesn't take much to run but getting a laptop with a dedicated card is gonna jump the price. Even an Nvidia 1650 card you're looking at $500 to $600 laptop on the lower end.

I really don't understand what's the problem in pointing out the cons .. as per you it's acceptable .. per some others it's not.
What's the problem in saying it??
That's like buying a Toyota Corolla and saying it's a con that it can't do 0-60 in 5 seconds.

The screen is clearly a "PRO" at this price range because it's touch screen and it's IPS and not a TN panel for under $450.

Find another hobby instead of trolling the slickdeals forum and whining about screen brightness on a dirt cheap laptop lmao

It might be dirt cheap for you.. not for a SDer like me
bought the yoga 6 for 449 and a HP OLED for $10 more (both in 2021). You just need to wait for the right deal.

What supports your conclusion? So far your points for Dell and for HP are identical. Both have restocking fees is all you mentioned. That sounds equal, not a plus for HP. Thanks.
The "PLUS" is that the HP in this case is from Walmart, which does not have a restocking fee.
So if you don't like it, you can return it.
The topic was out that folks may want to weigh WHERE they are buying from, since that can be an important factor. Especially if you are not 100% certain a device is for you. It is one thing to read the specs....another to use the keyboard, trackpad, see the screen, etc..

Quite possible one may discover, even with research, a laptop is not for them and they want to return.

On HP.com, once you hit submit...good luck ever canceling your order....Even if they cannot fulfill your order for months after the expected shipping date. I will buy an HP, but never from HP.com

Dell.com generally will actually HAVE the PCs/Laptops when you order them, unlike HP.com. Dell.com will also let you cancel or modify most of the time, so long as it is not too long after. And you can be assured that cases of them pushing back excepted shipping dates is rare.

I've returned quite a few computers to Dell. Never a restocking fee.
