Would someone please explain the 8-core / 7-core thing? I thought the spec sheet says 8-Core M1 for this. Am I incorrect?

1 core is disabled so they could charge more for the Pro.

The 256GB model for Macbook Air M1 has one core less than the 512GB model Air and the Mac M1 Pros. This is due to a practice called binning. Google it for more details.

I am not seeing the $100 off on the app. Seeing $849
I had that problem as well. That after several tries it kicked in finally. I was going use my browser. Went back to the app again and it took it. Make sure to click the student discount button and give it a second to fully load. I was ready to give up.

Wonder how long this is good for. I need a price adjustment as I bought for 799. The thing says until aug 1, but in details it only mentions the 200 off. Hmmm

I purchased 8 core gpu, 8 core cpu, 16 gb ram, 512 gb storage version refurb from apple directly for $1229, but this one is $500 cheaper. Tempted to return it and go with this one. Although my refurb is as good as new. Had only 2 cycles on the battery.

How come when I try to checkout with PayPal, it shows up as 849.99. Why can't I get the additional discount + 5% cash back with PayPal?

That's not how it works. Manufacturing computer chips is not 100% successful process. Irregularities in the process results in chips that are malformed. The manufacturer then disables cores to get less powerful but still functional CPU. The creme of the crop results in the higher end (i7, i9, M1 with more cores, etc) whereas the chips with more flaws end up being the lower spec (i5, i3, discard pile, etc). This process is called "binning".

I bought for $800 last week, tried calling customer service and they were being jerks about the refund amount saying that the student discount was only offered to select customers even though that was exactly how I got it originally for that price, went to local store I picked up the laptop from and they did the $50 refund without question. Guess it just depends on who u talk to. Good luck everyone!
