I did the same. Wonder if we can sell out 5900x? I really wanted the 5800x but not for $450. I wanted it for $400. $360 is a no brainer.

If youre not on AM4 already, Zen 3 is a dead end socket, as Zen4 is on AM5. Also LGA1700 (Intel 12th gen socket) is expected to last through 14th gen, meteor lake, Intel 4 node with tiles (chiplets), so youre 'investing' in a 3 year platform vs a deadend with AM4 or LGA1200.
Intel changes RAM and sockets all the time. there is no such thing as a 3 year platform with Intel.
that chip will be a furnace at 200W...
I'll give Alder Lake the benefit of the doubt... Even though Intel has been lagging for awhile. Meanwhile, AMD is not standing still either...

I just got the 5800X. I was going to get a Asus X570 mobo but the Tuf on shelf had no USB-C. Then I Saw a Tuf 550 Plus for $170 - $150 with the $20 off. It has USB-C + 2.5 GB ethernet so I went with that. WIth all the crazy prices the last months a 5800X with ASUS USB-C mobo for $510 was pretty good. The AMD RX 580 gpu I bough 2 years ago for 210 was selling for $900 a few weeks ago - $750 used on ebay lol

It will take at least another 2 year for those to drop to the price of current "old" tech.

So 85% of PC gamers have 6 cores or less.
A Ryzen 5 2600 is still good. A caveat is that every generation of Ryzen has been more stable. I had no issue with a 2600 but I was sure to check AMD's memory vendor list to buy memory thy approved. But even now there have been a lot of bios updates on AMD chips and mobos.I would get a newer mobo and a 550 or X570 can handle a chip from 2/3000s as well as a 5000. Really, the hard part will be getting a gpu that's not stupid expensive

There is a new article out about the G-series processors with graphcs built-in. Maybe something like that helps until the prices come down
