I'm definitely not the most demanding user, I don't need max settings turned up all the way on everything, just good quality smooth gaming @ 1080p for most titles.

Those extra pixels should hurt framerates, but as you can see, it holds up pretty well. If you use the 1080 screen on the non-Pro version, you should be pretty good.
You can also see some FPS tests here which is done on the non-Pro version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oREdpnO
It seems like this is doing pretty well and in same cases hitting about the same numbers as the 3070
These mobile GPUs aren't as beefy as the desktop ones, but they're pretty impressive

My main use for this thing would be to run some various games through Steam, maybe use Xbox Game Pass, and a few other odds and ends (mostly gaming related). Again, my main concern is avoiding a situation where 3 years from now, I'm sad that I didn't spend the extra few hundred today for the next step up - but this sounds pretty good based on your response. I don't ever need the latest and greatest settings enabled, I just want "pretty good" at 1080p and a good framerate and there would be no complaints from me.
The Pro is a 4k screen and generally has a 3070 (but can be a 3060). It's also more expensive and unavailable. It's a 16" screen
I went with this deal for a few reasons:
1) It's readily available.
2) It has an sd card reader (the 15" and Pro models do not).
3) No sales tax in my state for some reason.
If anyone has any questions, please ask and I'll do my best to answer.
PS. Note that the RAM configuration is 2x8GB, not 1x16GB as the spec sheet says. The RAM itself is Micron MTA4ATF1G64HZ-3G2E2. It's rank 1rx16, but has good tRFC timings (350/560/416/256). The SSD is a Samsung PM981a. Pretty solid.
Same price but Asus got better CPU, correct?

Just checked and it's out of stock. And yes, same price but this deal is a 17 inch which is significantly larger than a normal 15 inch. About 25% more screen of that of any 15.6'', but again, depend on your preference.
