Don't trust stuff like this from China. They are notorious for using their companies to spy on the people who use their products.

Previously, this Communist Party of China funded company was only watching us from our TVs, now they will want to watch us from every internet connected device. I personally don't have a problem with them watching me without my clothes on. I just hope they didn't get traumatized looking at my ugly body.

There's no way I would trust a TCL product with full access to my home network. You know, unless you want the CCP to have full access to your data, then I guess have at it.

I'm sure there will be all sorts of comments about how you can protect yourself against that to get this discount mesh WiFi setup, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Yes, I'd be worried about all the back doors and other security flaws about these units. But I don't think it's because of the "CCP", but mostly rather the poor standards of electronics TCL has put out there. They are looking to turn a quick buck with these.

I doubt US still allow CCP products with backdoor exist in the market.
Do you think there's a regulatory agency specifically testing products for this? The ZTE and Huawei bans of the past by the FCC were on infrastructure related commercial products, not consumer. If backdoors are discovered by a 3rd party the FCC might take action to strip their approval, but the approval process for consumer products by them is basically to ensure the product is following proper wireless protocols and not creating interference, not hunting for backdoors. The overall huawei ban in 2019 was a literal executive order from the president, not by some agency in charge of consumer goods.

If you think there's some sort of deep audit on the firmware/software of every consumer good sold I have bad news for you…

TV, that's fine. I'm not worried about my favorite TV shows being exposed.
Home network? Definitely no. All my passwords and identity and private conversations are worth more than a few bucks.

How refreshing! Don't you use your WiFi password with your networked TV? Unless you have it hardwired. But then you'd use your google credentials to access your google TV contents…

Good deal objectively, but bargain buyers beware. If you are paying $50-90 each month for your home internet, spending another $50-60 on a better and more reputable and reliable wifi system is a small percentage of your overall internet costs for the next few years that you'll probably want to use the wifi system for.

Google Wifi's AC1200 3-pack is currently $150 and if you wanted to make the jump to Wifi 6, Netgear Nighthawk offers a compelling bargain on renewed products currently on Amazon ($110 for a 2 pack, $170 for a 3 pack).
I guess we can trust Google with our data more than TCL? Haha. Or Apple who scans all of our photographs for the police department? China is looking safer than ever.

Because Americans are dumb enough to trust it's own corporations that sell your data more than the Chinese who don't profit from it nearly as much.

Never saw these tested but they are older AC1200 and nothing new. These would be perfect for setup in old peoples homes or people with very basic internet needs for $90, as long as your possibly okay with China spying on your surf habits.
"China spying on your surf habits" I love when people post this like they're actually surfing for stuff anyone would actually want to see.

According to the comment. So anyone could suggest that should I go with TP-Link X60 $230 or M9 plus $160 at Costco? Just lots of smart devices. Thanks.

Not to thread-crap, but there seems to be a lot of smart peeps in the thread......

I seem to have "run out" of 2.4 addresses due to smart-bulbs/garage door openers/switches etc.....

I'm thinking I could just add a few 2.4/5 routers in the ceiling (each one handing out 2.4 addys. But I'm sure there is a better way to do this.

Any thoughts?
