Yes this can be used on PlayStations. For PS5 see the following link: https://www.playstation
You can store PS5 games and PS4 games.
You can play PS4 games directly from USB extended storage, which lets you save space on your PS5 console storage for PS5 games.
To play PS5 games, you need to copy game data from your USB extended storage drive back to your PS5 console's internal SSD storage. It's much quicker to copy a PS5 game from USB extended storage than to re-download it.
If you want to use a USB extended storage drive that you were previously using with your PS4 console, simply connect it to your PS5 console. You'll be able to access any PS4 games on the drive.

Refresher: The first "Red" drives were just green drives with an incomplete firmware change (you could read the microcode and it still reported "green". Yes, I did this...). I think it wasn't until the third rev that red drives were actually different, but a green drive with a red label brought in more revenue.
You also know a company is lying when they refuse to publish truthful data. Here's what people were trying to use as acceptable answers. Notice how woefully poor it is with many drives not covered, especially "portable" drives over 2tb.

WD entered full on lie-and-obfuscate mode about 10 years ago, when they used the "flood" as an excuse for everything. Of course Seagate - a purveyor of junk - did too and they were never affected by the flood. There is very little integrity in any company/corporation anymore. Often run by sociopaths, they will do what they have to do to make money. Will they sell crap? In a heart beat...
That said, I think the 5tb to buy is the 5tb black drive, or possibly the passport model. I'd skip the easy store on general principles, knowing that WD lies often. However, it seems funny that they would build drives with different technology, so it may be that the black drive is SMR too.
Unless someone can tell from a tear down, I don't know how to tell what is CMR and what is SMR.
If one's USB port doesn't provide enough power to drive a portable hard drive then one may need to use a powered USB hub.
