Seems as though WD is not a good brand. After doing a little research, these externals tend to fail quite often

The "price intelligence" data indicate this is the nineteenth highest of 20 prices.
Not sure why this is slick.

Mine failed recently. It was fine few days back and when it travelled on a 13 hour flight it failed. When I hook it to PC it makes creechig sound and does nothing.

I just googled "WD Easystore reliability" and saw several posts on Quora, Reddit and forums saying they had issues. Looks like someone in the comments said they had one fail on them too. But as always YMMV

Maybe but the Samsung T7 touch from Costco looks good too. Only 2TB instead of the 5 tho

I bought two 5TB Easystores a few years ago back when Best Buy had them for $90. Both failed within the last week. Thankfully I backed them up regularly to a larger external...

Currently looking for a good 4TB SSD drive that won't break the bank.

Thought these would come down in price as portable ssd prices have dropped significantly over the past year or so 🌟🤔🤷 ♂️🌟

I bought 2 of these like 3 years ago. They still work for me (knock on wood). I don't move them though so that might be the reason why they are still working. My only issue with these drives is they get hot. It's better to remove the drives from the case but I had no other drive or place to put them into. So what I did was I bought a mini fan to blow air on them to cool them down.

As for the price this is about the price I've paid for this drive 3 years ago ($89). I would've thought the price would've been this price going forward. But it seems this drive always comes down to this price around black friday and goes back up through out the year. Maybe it will drop another $10 for cyber monday, then go back to the normal price in the hundreds like it seems to always do.

I wouldn't recommend this drive if you're planning to travel around with it. 5TB HDD is to risky to move around in your backpack. That's just asking for moving parts failure these days. Just go for an SSD drive instead.

If you need something to back up to and rarely touch I'd use it. Me I use it as a Steam storage with a Primocache SSD drive setup. 3 out of 5 rating.

This sounds more like insufficient power from the USB port. Try troubleshooting with others, even a wall wart to see if it spins up at least!

I have four of these, two on a NAS, one on XBOX and one stuck to the top of a PC. All have served well. Moving it while powered is very dangerous to lifespan. Absolutely get a SSD if you're using it while in transit like on the plane

Yeah it spins for few seconds and makes sound and then settle down. It does not showup in "This PC", but I see a option in to "Eject easystore" in the "Safely remove hardware" option in the right bottom tray

Check the disk management. It might show up there. if yes, you can format and get the drive back(data will be lost though).
