The negative reviews on this are brutal. For strictly WD fans who won't buy anything else and WD never dies on them.
The connector on the WD external series seems to be a weak spot that causes a lot of negative reviews because it gets disconnected and not visible to PC or Mac rather than the drive itself failing.
The bad connectors also make the power supply to the drives flaky creating the clicks of death.
Don't know why they can't make the connectors robust.

Because it is made by a different manufacturer and a more robust version would cost 1 cent more
Be aware that WD portable HDDs use a soldered-on USB connector without use of a SATA-USB bridge...preventing you from extracting the data if the connector goes bad, which is not ironically... the main issue with these drives. At least Seagate Expansion portables still have this bridge (although their reliability for me has been sus since the early 2000s, melting seashield anyone?)

Got this almost 2 years ago on a similar deal. The device started to click and no computer recognizes it anymore. Checked the warranty and it still had a couple of months under it. Sent it to WD on Saturday and now I'm waiting to receive a new one
