Starbucks coffee is sometimes referred to as Charbucks because they use a dark roast for their regular espresso drinks. Most espresso drinkers prefer medium roasts with a few preferring light roasts. Most of the Lavazza offerings are medium roast - in other words they taste like coffee rather than tobacco ash. From Starbucks perspective, they use a dark roast because it allows them to get away with using lower quality and therefore cheaper beans. The other thing about dark roasts is that they produce coffee with less caffeine. This allows Starbuck to sell more drinks because people can drink more of them.

Bonus: When you get there you can get a decent espresso machine and already have a decent grinder.
I do pour overs too, and the good-enough grinder makes a difference.
I have a borderline-decent grinder, an aeropress, and Breville milk frother. Pretty happy. There are good milk frothers that cost half the amount of a breville now adays too.
An aeropress can be gotten for $30-20% off at bed bath and beyond. If there in-store price is more than $30 like it was at my location, tell them you want to order one from their BB&B online site and they will accept the coupon, order in on their office computer and it will be shipped to your house for free.

The normal Lavazza pricing indicates the quality of the coffee you'll end up with. The key is to buy the more expensive stuff when it's on sale, not this stuff.
