I honestly don't know what Harbor Freight is thinking.
They used to be the place to go to when you needed a tool for a specific job that you may never use again, but hey, its about the same cost as renting, so why not?
With the prices they are charging now, eh... I'll just go buy a real tool brand.
The tariffs really screwed them over lol and when that happened along with the pandemic, bye bye coupons. I don't like the new business model but it's likely out of necessity.
The discontinuation of the 20% off coupon is one reason why I don't like HF anymore; however, the bigger reason that stopped me from going to HF period is that they've raised their prices on pretty much everything. For example, the US General 72in roller cabinet was $1199 a year ago, with occasional coupons cutting it down to $999. Now it's selling for $1399.
.
Shipping is up over 600% since this time last year. All tool boxes have went up just like everything else. I am paying double the price for milk and meat, 60% more for gas, diesel and now natural gas, etc., as last year. Compare weight to weight for size and unless it is a closeout deal, nobody competes on tool box prices.
Harbor Freight does not miss the whining freebie seekers anymore than any other store can afford and frankly, neither do I.
Instead of a store full of Goodwill rejects as a family outing to get a dollar item for nothing with long checkout lines, I can get some customer service with quick checkout that vastly reduces my time in store. Going to Lowes, Home Depot, etc., you almost have to take your lunch to find anything with little to no customer service.
I miss the 20% off coupons too, I only recently discovered HF at the beginning of the pandemic and ordered for shipping… but recently was able to go to one in store bc it's near where I'm staying now. I don't need any big ticket items, but ended up picking up a lot of smaller items to round out my hand tools and consumable items like epoxy and such that are much cheaper than Amazon/HD/Lowes (even if not as cheap as before). Is it only the power tools and big ticket items that make people think HF isn't worth anymore? Or also things like the $1 utility knife and $1 for 10x replacement blades or $3 torpedo level, or $3 for 10x single use super glue?

I think you have the right perspective - everything is higher in price, assuming you can even get it. I do miss the coupons, though the 30% off >$10 have been pretty common.
When you get right down to it, if I need a bearing puller, or like recently, a pneumatic brake-bleeder system for a job I'm right in the middle of, where else am I going to go? I'm going to HF anyway because they're still going to be faster and cheaper than any other option.
I can see that higher prices might make impulse buyers, or tool collectors frown, but when in need, they're still the only game in town.
Looking to pick up their US general 44in tool Box. Do i buy now with 10% off or wait for the possible 20% off coupon?
.
Were toolboxes ever included for the 20% coupon discount? As I remember, toolboxes, compressors and a few other items were exempt.
Inside Track membership is like $22/year, so this deal of an extra 5% is $50 a $1,000 and I am thinking about it. HF recently opened a new store that is reasonably close.
I've been needing a new ladder, but am hesitant on buying a ladder from HF. Anyone used the ladder below? Is it worth it to wait for a different deal on a different multi-position ladder?

I used to visit Harbor Freight maybe 3 weeks a month, maybe 4 at times. I probably visit 3-4 times a year now. Only when I really need a specific item that I know I'm willing to purchase there. Just not the same.

At this point I would say go ahead and get it now. I dont think they will have a better deal in the near future. Also when I ordered mine they let me order the top and bottom on the same day and use the discount on both. I also paid for the 1 year ITC membership which saved me an additional $42 dollars, at the cost of $30, so net another $12 off.

Black Friday is next month and those ladders are always on sale. iirc, the Little Giant was $99 at Lowes last year.
It's one thing to buy some low quality hand tools or tarps from HF but you don't want to be climbing on a cheap knock-off ladder. Their 'Lifetime Warranty' won't matter if collapses on you when you're two stories up.

While talking to the store manager of a new store that is reasonably close, HF is going to have better deals for the Inside Track members in lieu of the everyone gets a 20% limited coupon.
Years ago I paid for their membership because I got it all back on the one item I was buying. But, with their coupons, there were not that many deals that made it worthwhile and did let it lapse. If they start adding more and better perks, I will participate.
Sure, one can borrow a lot of tools from one of the auto stores, but and apparently like you, I tend to buy what I need for next time. Although HF carries over 300 items made in the USA, as far as coupons, all the major purchases we have made were excluded, so not a big deal. And of course, many, many of the items sold at HF are the same items sold elsewhere, including the box stores, Northern Tools, etc. at a higher price.

I have a similar one from Little Giant and hate it. It's 3x heavier than a basic stepladder and the small rungs are uncomfortable to stand on. It sucks as an extension ladder, flopping around like a wet noodle.
Think about how you would use it and buy the right ladder for the job.

$22.50/year is pretty close to '$22.' What does it cost for Amazon Prime if not a discounted welfare recipient (and why I refuse to pay their retail), Costco, Sam's, etc.?

ITC is currently $29/year or $45 for 2 years.
