I have bought several of these SMR drives and they can be SLOW!!! This might be OK for backup drives though.... if you are patient. By going to Device Manager and then 'Disk drives', then 'Policies' for the drive, you can speed it up a bit by choosing the better performance options. -TidalWaveOne

Buy it after you know what exactly SMR is and decide to take the risk. SMR doesn't only mean slow speed, it can also lose data if not taken care of, for example abrupting the writing process while you think it has stopped working.

Besides, that's why you use unraid or something like it anyway. Redundancy is king.

Hence that deal is going to cream this one, for those who do the trade-in coupon. $170 for 14TB WD would be my preference as well. The only missing ingredient is Costco's easy returns and warranty extension, free data recovery service (not guaranteed, so always backup!). Those benefits add good value to me. Overall If I had to choose I would go with the BB deal right now.
Updated: I ended up with 3 of the WDs before the deal died. If the BB storage trade-in program was understood by my store's employees, I might have gone for another, but too late now.
They were unable to work it out at the Colerain store, even after trying every suggestion in the wiki, including a management level login to find the option. At least they manually gave me the 15% on one while I was there being patient, but persistent when they tried to blow me off.
I think Amex Simply Cash Business card still extends the warranty, so I used that on at least one of the WDs.

Right now I'm moving my important data off my 2 remaining drives to WD drives... ugh.. I have learnt my lessons and I will never purchase another Seagate drive regardless of prices...
