I got 3 of these a few months back for the same price. All of them Seagate BarraCuda Computes. Slow as hell when you get close to filling them up since they're SMR.

Awesome. Been waiting for $15/tb.

Anyone know what kind of drive is inside?
edit: looks like they are smr drives. need to see how they will work with unRAID.
not recommended for raid configurations.

the only drive I've had fail was a 1.5TB with a higher failure right that I abused to all hell. I put it in a fanless enclosure and ran it into the ground and it still took an extremely long time to fail.
Besides, that's why you use unraid or something like it anyway. Redundancy is king.
Have a Seagate FreeAgent 1.5TB drive bought in 2006 I've been using for longterm offline storage (mp3/jpeg/mp4 files) ever since. Never punished it but still back it up occasionally (redundancy is king and key). Imaging takes ~12 hours but use a clip-on spot fan while the backup is running (they do get hot) and still pleased with it.

I have one of these from a year or two ago. Inside is a Seagate Archive drive, which is a drive really designed to be written to infrequently. So its SMR, and I think also very little cache. That's why it's being reported that these are very slow...

If it's wrong then you should alert the mods.
never judge a deal by its title. at the least 500+ thumbs up should tell you something.

Yes mr smart a - I will send HD full of my personal files to Seagate in Malaysia. Costco has only 90 days return on electronics.Just learn before posting nonsense
Only certain electronics are limited to 90-day return. I already linked the return policy in this thread, so stop the name-calling. Look it up yourself. I am not like some here who are just thread-crapping based on brand. I think it is disproportionately blamed based on stats in the real world. I've had a bad model which did have widespread issues (3TB), but that doesn't make all their models lemons.

Look up their return policy. This is not limited to 90-days return. Only certain electronics are.

How is this better than the bestbuy 14tb for $180?
I agree. The BB deal was announced after this one was (which this one was in advance).
Hence that deal is going to cream this one, for those who do the trade-in coupon. $170 for 14TB WD would be my preference as well. The only missing ingredient is Costco's easy returns and warranty extension, free data recovery service (not guaranteed, so always backup!). Those benefits add good value to me. Overall If I had to choose I would go with the BB deal right now.

Updated: I ended up with 3 of the WDs before the deal died. If the BB storage trade-in program was understood by my store's employees, I might have gone for another, but too late now.
They were unable to work it out at the Colerain store, even after trying every suggestion in the wiki, including a management level login to find the option. At least they manually gave me the 15% on one while I was there being patient, but persistent when they tried to blow me off.

I think Amex Simply Cash Business card still extends the warranty, so I used that on at least one of the WDs.

I called and chatted with Costco, both confirm this is 90 days limited, not forever like some of you claimed

Please DO NOT buy these... I bought 4 of these from Costco 3 years ago and 2 of them have already failed... lost 16 TB worth of data... Some of my WD drives are almost 8 years old and they are still humming along... DO NOT purchase Seagate drives if you care about data outside of their warranty period.

Right now I'm moving my important data off my 2 remaining drives to WD drives... ugh.. I have learnt my lessons and I will never purchase another Seagate drive regardless of prices...
