In for two for my Synology 920+ using a 1% cash back site and 5% back via Chase Freedom card through Paypal. $429.78 total should be just ~$404 or ~$14.4/tb

Will go from 2x12tb and 2xEmpty at 12TB total protected to 38TB total protected. That should be enough for me for a very long time as I'm only at 80% of my current maximum.

I'll hold onto them until BF to make sure something better doesn't pop up. Don't need to install right away.

Can these be shucked? So far almost all the external drives I've gotten have crap external connectors.

What drives have you bought size wise.

I had a very bad experience with a 4 TB Western Digital external hard drive. It was taken care of very well, but just died in less than 2 years. Multiple 1 TB external drives of all brands and a couple of 2 TB drives still work fine for me after 4 to 6 years.

I'd have an additional backup of a completely different drive just in case. Hard drive quality in general may have dropped in recent years. Personally, I will likely be using multiple smaller hard drives after extensive research.

I ordered one for pickup earlier and just saw the 15% recycle offer.

I grabbed an old 80GB spinner on my way to Best Buy and they were able to apply the discount at the register at pickup.

Tip- have the "Recycle and Save" URL already up on your phone when you go in because none of the employees had heard of the offer and it took them 10 minutes to figure out how to issue the coupon.

How does the 15% off when recycling an old harddrive work? Would I be able to get that discount if I buy in-store tomorrow, and if they don't have it in stock, would I be able to order it through them in-store and still get the 15% off?
Didn't know this was a thing. I had to look it up. Thanks for the heads up.
I am pretty sure they used to allow online orders to be placed in the store so you could use a store coupon. Not sure if they still do. But I have a memory of doing that (whether or not my memory is accurate). They'll print out the receipt for you afterwards so you can track the shipping

Mind posting a link to any info about the recycled storage? If that's reproducible and not limited to 1, I am absolutely gonna drive to BB tonight to load up 4 if they'll let me. TIA!

Also, another request here for peeps to post whats inside after shucking. Assuming white label CMR but would love to confirm if possible.
I just did the same. Be careful the code only applies to one drive

Last year about the same same time I got these for 189.99. Then the prices really ramped up after Christmas. Never had any issue with these drives shucked for Synology. You always have some person who says I had a hard drive that crashed on me I will never buy WD or Seagate or whatever. All of that is anecdotal. With the AMEX offer thats 25.00 off if you buy two of them. Best Buy is great on price matching even via online chat of the price drops to 179 on Black Friday or whatever. They have become much more aggressive in price matching in recent years.

I just used it! It definitely works and you just have to tell them to look for the old landline icon. The promos resides in there.

It's backkkkkk picked up 2 more for my array...this hasn't been this cheap in quite a while...ppl claiming they got the 14TB for $179 or $189 I don't recall the 14TB ever being below $199 but with the price guarantee and supply/inflation issues going on I don't wanna risk it, hope it drops to $180 in the next few months and I'll get the price adjusted!
Cheapest its been was $179 using the business discount when it was eligible for $20 off of $200. I got 2 at that price. Have never seen it $179 without the business discount.

Western Digital is not a dependable hard drive. I have had plenty to lock up on me.
What other brands is more reliable at this capacity? Don't tell me seagate

Pair that with this deal and you're golden.

FWIW I did this type of deal a few weeks ago. The associates said the HDD Recycling is under a different section in their system IIRC it was under "trade in" instead of "e-waste recycling" the associate told me he doubted the coupon would stack but when we got back to the register, boom, it just worked no special approval nothing. 15% off the sales price.

How's $170 for 14TB ? Got get your free Microcenter thumbdrive and flip it for 14TB for sub $13/TB
Don't see at the link but is there a list of eligible devices.
