1: the HD 10 current version goes on sale for around $75-$99 often
2: the HD 10 older version is available for $74 now though compared to the new HD 10 sale price that's not that good of a discount.
Otherwise for an 8 inch fire HD, yeah, this is decent, but has a much worse (resolution etc) screen than the HD10, and half the processor cores, so if the price difference is like $20-30-$40 depending on which HD8 and HD10 one compares maybe the HD10 options are better for future proofing, better capabilities, etc.
These are just better alternative to the no-name trash Chinese tablets from aliexpress/wish/amazon.
If you have correct expectations, these are good. and for $55 vs original $80-100, this is a good gift option.

But if you can afford it, get the FH 10. Especially if your kid plays Roblox, Minecraft, and other games.
Really, the FH 8 is just too weak.
Let's say your kid is 4 years old... maybe get the FH 8. But if your kid is like 7 years old or older, the FH 10 is much better suited.
I can also state that my kid used their tablet Fire HD 10 while my kid did remote learning and I think a 8" would have been just to small.
Spend the extra money and get the HD 10... it is a no brainer.
