I was kind skeptical at first to replace my Plasma due to the pure black performance. If you look at my photo (plasma on the left, U8G on the right) the black on the U8G is very good. Look hard there a bit of glow due to the active backlights but it's not bad at all. Because the TV is much brighter than the plasma, you eyes adjust and back light glow kind of disappears. The HDR on the U8G makes the image on the plasma look flat in comparison without bright highlights.

Note that the 55 inch has fewer number of dimming zones compared to the 65 inch I have so YMMV.
Weird how Hisense now decided to lower the price of this TV after the TCL sale has ended. Maybe everything will drop down during black friday week, right?

Amazon also lowered their price to $750

I'd be surprised if TCL and Hisense weren't coordinating pricing. Their price changes have been happening within 24hrs of each other since I've been watching them the last 1-2months

I agree.. Even the TCL 5 series price increased and Hisense U7G decreased. It could be best buy or hisense.

The TV reviewers keep saying that the manufacturers set the price, not Amazon and Best Buy. I'm not sure how strict that rule is if it's true.

May be manufacturers just say, you cannot sell this model below $700. Then let retailer decide the sales part.

So I only stream shows/movies and watch Blurays at 24p. Will I be happy with this TV for that, as long as I win the QA lottery? I've been wanting to upgrade our fairly old 46" Samsung LED for quite some time.

Manufacturers set the MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) and MAP (minimum advertised price). A retailer can not list the item below the MAP. That's why sometimes you can only see the price in the cart or during checkout.

There's an error in the specs listed in this post. The 55" U8G only has 132 local dimming zones while the 65" model has 360 local dimming zones. That and the ghosting issues have held me back from buying the 55" U8G for my bedroom and I can't fit the 65" unfortunately.

Do manufactures actively adjust the MAP?

So when Amazon increases and decreases the prices at the same time as Best Buy, is that the manufacturer telling both of them to do that? Or is that Amazon and Best Buy trying to match each other?

Amazon has a particular time of day that they tend to adjust the prices, and so does Best Buy. This makes me feel like the price adjustments are scheduled, rather than the two trying to match each other.
