Rtings considers this TV to be "much better than the Sony X85J", which it considers to be a good mid-range TV and is currently priced at $750. But I just can't accept that these budget brands, such as Hisense make better products than Sony. I've never owned a Hisense, but I've had subpar experiences with both TCL and Vizio, which were considered to be "better" than their Samsung or Sony branded competition. I understand that the picture quality might be superior, but I don't think they factor in things like defect rate or longevity. What good is picture quality if the TV doesn't work properly?

I considered buying a u8g for my dad's birthday, but settled on the xj85 for Sony's reliability compared to Hisense!

We bought a Hisense 55H8F 2019 4K UHD TV in November 2019 and it is still working fine. No issues and no repairs needed. We also just purchased a Hisense 55U8G from Best Buy and will use the 2019 Hisense in another room.
Differences between the two are that the user interface is faster on the new 2021 55U8G and picture quality out of the box is better and brighter on this newer one. Also it has more potential brightness for both SDR, HDR, and Dolby Vision.
But quality is on par with other brand models costing $1,000 to $1,200.
What Hisense and Vizio seem to have done is provide mid priced high quality TVs and Samsung and Sony have followed in trying to do the same, but still are much higher priced like their higher tier TVs.
We even have a 10 year old 26" Sanyo LCD TV in one bedroom and it still is working well, has more inputs than many TVs today, and has picture quality that works well in the lower room light.
I've also purchased a Samsung in 2010 and a $3,000 Mitsubishi LCD in 2007. The Samsung was ok, but difficult to adjust for the best picture and fussy to connect for using the streaming. It required and additional $100 USB dongel to obtain Wi-FI.
The $3,000 Mitsubishi main board went out within 18 months.
The selection of TVs, quality and performance is better than ever now in the mid priced TV market and Rtings.com as well as some other reviewers provide a better than ever service to make a good TV purchase without breaking the bank if desired.
