There's an error in the specs listed in this post. The 55" U8G only has 132 local dimming zones while the 65" model has 360 local dimming zones. That and the ghosting issues have held me back from buying the 55" U8G for my bedroom and I can't fit the 65" unfortunately.
Sorry I'll fix it

The TV reviewers keep saying that the manufacturers set the price, not Amazon and Best Buy. I'm not sure how strict that rule is if it's true.
It's called MAP pricing and is used for tons of products, but it only applies to advertised price. That's why, especially with tv retailers, they say they can't negotiate over the price but if you come in, they can make you a deal.

So if we just bought at the other price, best buy should refund the difference until January right?

I don't know, best buy has it listed as an extended return policy but I'm thinking if they have a black friday or cyber monday sale it would be a headache for them to honor it.

I just pushed my delivery date to 11/30 so I could cancel and rebuy if they won't adjust.

Also, I have last year's tcl 6 series (without vrr) but lack of roku, some wifi issue, better looking stand, and slightly better ratings made me pick this tv for the game room

75R635, it's a great TV but no VRR

75R636 (or smaller) I imagine will also be great for picture quality but with worse software. You could always buy a 4k roku stick for $50 on sale too

So the U8G TVs doesn't have the "Black Friday Prices Guaranteed" label on Best Buy like some other TVs. Can you still get price match after the fact?

Hmm I checked the FAQs and TCL support seems to think that it does but I've owned mine over a year so maybe it was patched in.

It looks like maybe it does so with a workaround and without HDMI 2.1 and not sure if it can do 4k/120hz seems like the TCL staff is dancing around those questions in their response so may only support 1440p vrr

Got the 65 inch version over the weekend and the picture quality is phenomenal. And this is someone that came from a Samsung Plasma TV.
Thank you! This is exactly the kind of info I need-succinct and helpful. Also, this kind of feedback is not "googleable" - have to let early(ier) adopters tell me Smilie-thanks!!

Just because the TV can't do 4k/120Hz doesn't mean that it doesn't have VRR. I don't have this TV so I can't confirm what the TV can do, just wanted to point that out. VRR tech has been around for a while (long before hdmi 2.1 has been a thing). Off the top of my head, the TVs that aren't 4k capable but still can do VRR are Samsungs (used to have it on their midrange sets but now I think it's exclusively on their high end ones) and most LG OLEDs too (obviously the latest and greatest have hdmi 2.1 inputs but believe the ones from a couple of years ago had VRR w/ 60Hz).

I was kind skeptical at first to replace my Plasma due to the pure black performance. If you look at my photo (plasma on the left, U8G on the right) the black on the U8G is very good. Look hard there a bit of glow due to the active backlights but it's not bad at all. Because the TV is much brighter than the plasma, you eyes adjust and back light glow kind of disappears. The HDR on the U8G makes the image on the plasma look flat in comparison without bright highlights.

Note that the 55 inch has fewer number of dimming zones compared to the 65 inch I have so YMMV.

Looking at the 65" U8G for my patio. Currently $989 which is $10 cheaper than the 7. Good deal and decent TV for outside? Mostly looking for the most Nits for the buck.

These may be fine for console gaming, but should be avoided for PC gaming or monitor use.
No chroma 444
only really 120hz VRR at 4096x2160
VRR dips will cause the tv to switch between it's enhanced and standard modes which is a big jarring stutter and color tone change.
Extended use of VRR or just prolonged use requires a full power cycle before hand.
Sometimes it wakes up stuck in like 4hz mode and has to be power cycled.
Ghosting randomly in earthy scenes in games.
Ok Google cannot be disabled only muted, which activates visible lighting that can't be disabled. Even if disabled, commercials will trigger the tv to try and set up the Google assistant you've disabled.

Really tried to make it work, but this wasn't meant for anything other than consoles and maybe not even that. And from Reddit comments I've had a better experience than most.
