The previous thread was a month old and had weird links. https://slickdeals.net/f/15394060-maybe-ymmv-ridgid-16-gal-5-0-peak-hp-nxt-wet-dry-shop-vacuum-with-2-filters-2-pack-dust-bags-hose-diffuser-and-3-accessories-hd1640a-49-99?v=1&src=SiteSearch Even though it's the same model, internet and SKU numbers, for some reason that Old HD link doesn't show as being available in store.

OP, you might want to put "Ridgid ' in the title. It'll probably get you more hits by triggering more Deal Alerts.
I don't see another post. There was a precious one that was in store only very ymmv.

Edit: previous not precious. Not looking for a ring...
This is the best shop vac I've ever owned and this is an amazing price. If you don't have one already you should jump on this deal.

I don't believe that for a nanosecond. This is a 7.8A motor no way that is even close to 100 CFM and even if they are using voodoo CFM science the actual sucking power of this thing is worse than my 4 gallon shop vac, 100. It seems manufacturers have just lost all credibility. A good 16 gal shop vac will have at least an 11A motor. I put this on my cyclone at it has the same poor suction power as my 8 gal 4HP stanley 1 7/8 which ironically has a 8 A motor. I can not get over how poor it sucks and it is literally as loud as a jet engine. You MUST wear ear protection to use this.

So it is worth $50. Yes. But this thing is a 4 gallon $30 shop vac in a big 16 gallon container.

Could be lower pressure higher volume, the CFM rating is not the only thing that matters… but yea I can't run this without hearing protection, it's ridiculous. My old Ridgid was not like this

As an update here, I also picked up the 10 gallon Dewalt from Costco for $90. The filter was much bigger physically, everything was better constructed, came with more accessories, and most important of all, it was MUCH quieter. The only big downside is that it's a 1-7/8" hose vs 2.5". If you're doing construction or remodeling that might not be good enough.

For me, the Ridgid is going back, sadly.
I bought the Ridgid one mentioned in this SD thread and haven't even fired it up yet... just figured that it would be a good long-terms shop vac. Now these responses have me questioning everything and wanting to go with the Costco DeWalt vacuum; primarily because of how loud the units are.

The thing I really liked about the Ridgid was the LSA but maybe that's not as big of a deal as I'm thinking and I should just go with the Costco DeWalt.

So I too just picked up this very shop vac, and I have to say.. I find it to be fantastic.

It certainly seems to perform WAY better than the older one I had, with a larger capacity to boot. On top of being larger, it's also not near as heavy or awkward to move around as you might initially think.

Now granted, I can't speak all technical as to its exact CFM rating or precise motor amperage… but then again I'm not in to splitting hairs that much for my general shop vac. - My biggest take-away here is it's a great performing shop vac for FIFTY BUCKS; the latter being the biggest selling point.

I think most home owners would be more than pleased with this unit, or they would also make good Christmas gifts.

That definitely makes me feel better since I do think I'd be in that camp where this truly is going to be a general shop vac for me. How's the sound, in your opinion? Lots of others are saying that this is super loud - but maybe it's not as bad as I'm thinking it'll be.

I opted for the Costco Dewalt even though it costs. I'm a homeowner so I do need a wet/dry vacuum but this seems to be awkward in size and the comments about noise was enough for me not to purchase it.

For anyone wondering if the 16 gallon would be needed, ANYONE who has had a basement flood, a 16 gallon will save you a lot of time. If you don't have a basement, or never flood, get the 4 gallon one. I have both because it is better to be prepared, than to stand there wondering what you are going to do when something does happen to you, or even a neighbor. $50 is well worth it.
Great advice.

Last time there were heavy rains for an extended period of time, basement flooded. When I went looking for vacuum it was all sold out everywhere. Had to scoop out using whatever vessels we had :-)

Just received mine, the bucket itself is 20 inches wide and 18 inches tall, its like the bottom third of a plastic garbage can, not that big imo

I started and used mine today for a bit and it is definitely louder than I was expecting. Seems that the high-pitch noise that others have mentioned seems to come from the blower port but I could be wrong about that.

I'm debating whether or not to return and go a different route

All the local stores said "call, due to low qty". Went in and the store had 6 or so. 👍

I'm sorry but I have to laugh. People complaining about the noise. I have been doing construction for 20 years and I realize it's a tool to cleanup after a job is done. What are these people complaining doing? Using the Shop-Vac at 2 in the morning when the kids are sleeping? Do you complain about your circular saw being loud? I am laughing so hard typing this about how ridiculous people can be. It's a tool people!! Is your vacuum quiet? This is the world we live in now. Really a Shop-Vac is a Shop-Vac. Been the same for as long as I can remember. The question is how cheap can you get it. This meets that need.

So for the past 15 years or so Ive gone through the black friday shop vac deals, from Lowes to HD. The shop vac brand from Lowes are junk. The Rigid from HD are good, but that Costco Dewalt is the best shop vac and probably the last shop vac you will need. After buying this you will seldom click on any shop vac deals again. its quiet, very powerful and just really well built. I bought mine few years ago and its been awesome.
Would you happen to know if the Rigid auto detail kit will fit the Dewalt, it almost looks like it will, the way the Rigid has that little locking clip?

It's this one, but in store for $89.99. This link is for businesses only, I don't think you can buy it online.

Also I just found out that the ports on the Dewalt actually fit the 2.5in hose from the Ridgid!! The Dewalt hose is just thinner.

That means it also works perfectly with the Ridgid car cleaning kit on the other deal thread for $25. If I need a bigger hose for remodeling I can just buy a 2.5 inch Ridgid hose, but the horrible high pitch noise on the Ridgid + unwieldy size are deal breakers for me
Thanks, and repped! You just answered all my questions!

It's way louder than my old 12 gallon Ridgid and the Costco DeWalt… I sold the Ridgid a few years ago but I got to run the Dewalt and this one side by side, the difference is quite significant.

Some of us don't want damaged hearing, but if you're used to working in a construction environment I understand that might be different
