Just fyi, samsung has downgraded this drive due to chip shortages, it doesn't have its phoenix controller, so the performance is much less than it used to be. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...plus-ssds/
All in all, it's more in "side grade" territory. The drive now has better SLC cache, but worse sustained writes after you overwhelm said cache. Keep in mind, what this means is that you're going to be worse off when you're moving large files around. For daily use, and gaming, this actually appears to be an upgrade.
I hate to come off as a fan boy, nothing makes me angrier than blind brand loyalty, but I don't want you guys running away screaming from something that would actually be good for you.
Ugh. I didn't even hear about that, and that article was published within DAYS of when I bought mine and I'm too lazy to disassemble my iMac again just to check, but speed tests don't seem to crater on larger file sizes like mentioned in the article, so maybe I got lucky...
You probably got one from the old stock, which is highly unlikely now.
Do you by chance know the Crucial and WD ssd that downgraded from TLC to QLC? That is so messed up... Samsung too, but atleast it was only a controller swap
It's probably easy to find, just google it. That how I found out about this drive's controller swap, I just googled it and that report was one of the first things that popped up.

Would this work on motherboard x99 a-II? I dont know much about computer. I just know i have this motherboard.
The best way to figure that out is to Google up the manual for your motherboard. You can see on page IX of the manual for yours, it says "1 x M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 Socket 3 with M Key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 (support PCIe storage device only)*".

Agreed. Some specs are better with the new controller. Sustained write performance beyond SLC cache fill up was the only notable negative... and the SLC cache on this drive is probably twice the 1TB model. Who regularly copies more than ~230 GB of large serial files at a time from a source that can keep up with this drive?
Also, I wish a full review of the 2TB model with the new controller would be posted. There has been some speculation that the sustained write performance past SLC cache fil up *may* not be affected as much as the 1Tb model as there *may* be twice the dies/chips/flash write lanes used on the 2Tb model. In years past, this gave larger drives more sustained write performance than the smaller capacity drives in the same series that were populated with fewer nand flash chips.
I got this drive last year for $250. Not sure how much the downgrade impacts perf (haven't researched) but, for $50 cheaper and good NAND, this seems worth it to me. 2TB is a good comfortable size for me, glad I chose this over 1TB.
No please. The 2TB still got the PHX controller as verified by many on the AMZN reviews and myself included when the drive was on sale for 2.5 Benjamins in Sept/October. OP homeboy is wrong IMO. Good heads up to ppl but he ain't got his data points straight. Aight.
