From an Amazon Q&A:

Chamberlain MyQ offers a subscription for connecting your device to smart home services such as IFTTT, & Google assistant. The subscription will allow you to automate various features with your smart devices. The cost for this subscription will be $1 a month or $10 a year. Although Amazon Key, Nest, & Xinfinity home integration does not require a subscription and can be integrated for free.

Apart from integrating chamberlain Myq to smart home services such as IFTTT & Google assistant, chamberlain's other features are completely free. This includes using the chamberlain app to check your garage history to see at what times were your garage open & closed as well as if it was left open. You will be able to add an alert to set your garage on a timer if it is left open for a time chosen by you say 5 minutes it will automatically close on its own. The app will also allow you to open and close your garage remotely.

Can second this. Bought this exact one earlier this month, has been working fine with no fee.

Need another sensor, its cheaper to pick this up then just the sensor.

Is there any difference between this newer white one, and the older black one from a few years ago? That one was sometimes spotty as far as keeping a connection to the network.
Yes, I had the old black one a few years ago and I could never predict when it would work or not. I ended up getting a Meross which was somewhat more reliable. I moved into a new house in March and bought this new version of the MyQ when it was on sale for $19.98 in April and it has been much more reliable. In fact I can't think of one time it hasn't worked.

With Google Assistant, do you still have to ask it to ask MyQ to do something? Instead of just telling Google to open the garage door? You have to tell Google to ask MyQ to open the garage door which is a little bit annoying.

It's been a few months since I used mine (moved), but the Google integration was pretty terrible. It's the first device I've had where it wasn't Google Home integration, but Assistant only. This means the device will not show up in Google Home and you'll have to say things like, "Hey Google, Tell MyQ to close the garage door".

There are generic devices on Amazon that give you true Google Home integration and rather than act as a garage remote, just connect directly to the opener like the button on your garage wall.

It appears the sensor is battery driven for myq? This is a point of failure and is a hassle to change battery from time to time. I would prefer one that has hard wired.

Heads up: if your opener brand is not supported officially, you might be able to still get it working. Then again, you might not. This worked for 2 days on my unsupported garage door opener. Then, trouble began (door being ajar, opener app being unresponsive).
So, if you are willing to risk it, go ahead for unsupported openers.
I really wish this were universal. I loved it for the 2 days it was working. Such a quality of life improvement.

The sensor needs to be mounted on the garage door. Will be hard to hard wire that unit!

While true this is only 16 bucks you can't ask for too much. Changing the battery isn't that bad just keep some on hand and when you get the low battery warning change it

What's different from the old one?
I believe the only differences are its color, a slightly different solution for mounting the device, and the new one has bluetooth. Basically once it is installed, the only real practical differences in my opinion is the color.

As for the subscription fee, one does exist but it is only needed if you plan on hooking your garage door up to a supported 3rd party app.

Have it and it works ok. It needs a pretty strong WiFi signal in order to function consistently so don't be surprised if you need an extender.

Curious, can you set alert/notification if your door has been open longer than a certain amount of time without subscription? How about Alexa integration "Alexa, open garage door" ?

That's because ifttt changed their business model and doesn't really allow free integrations anymore. But you can use it without ifttt no problem.

currently, we have 2 chamberlain openers with the MyQ built in. We are able to control them via our phone and get alerts when the doors are open, etc.

We are moving in to a new house that has a couple openers but they are not chamberlain. Does this project here allow the non-chamberlain openers to be controlled via phone?
I too had the actual Chamberlain opener with MyQ built-in at my old house and currently have this one at our new house added to a Genie opener.
Honestly, I liked the old one better. I've gotten quite a few sensor errors already in just 6 months.
Plus, this one does not seem to have the option of sending an alert to your phone when the garage door remains open.

Can I use both the phone and home link in my car to operate the garage door? I set one up couple years ago and home link stopped working afterwards

In case anyone was hoping to use this with Xfinity Home integration; you cannot. Xfinity sent notices and stopped integration in August.

Last time I did the Amazon Key credit [amazon.com] offer I was able to use the credit to buy some non-Amazon gift cards. In case anyone is wondering what to use the free credit on.
