This will not work for unlocking. Using the pre-loaded Tracfone SIM intended for BYOD devices will not unlock a Tracfone-branded (or Simple-Mobile branded) phone. The service will work fine, but not the unlocking.

It doesn't work that way... Which network the MVNO is using have nothing to do with whether the phone is usable on another MVNO. This phone won't work with Mint Mobile until it is unlocked either after 12 months of service or using things like Rsim.

Btw, Simple mobile phones do work on Tracfone, Total Wireless, Net10, etc because they are owned by the same company.

It worked for me because I did not turn on the phone until Tracfone sim was inserted.

You can always get a Rsim for about $10-15 at eBay
I think what people are wondering is if it will be unlockable after the year of Tracfone service is up.

I have no doubt that the TracFone sim will work, but in 12 months will the phone be unlocked by the company? that's the real question

Like I said: it worked for me, and about 25% of SD users.

But I did mention the Rsim option as well

No it will NOT.

This phone IS compatible with the umbrella of networks:
Simple Mobile, Total Wireless, Tracfone, StraightTalk, Red Pocket, And LifeLine
Is RedPocket under that umbrella? I didn't realize RedPocket was owned by the same company that owns SM, TW, ST, and TF.

Thanks OP, ordered this as trade in fodder towards the Pixel 6 via BestBuy. They are giving $360 promo value for the SE. $350 all together for the Pixel 6 is a good deal IMO.

Yes it is. But every phone has a compatibility w/a diff carrier (eg. Verizon and so on), which can be checked w/cust Serv, you can then get the correct sim.

News for me too! But i googled and they do share a facebook page so maybe were bought up in past year? Thank you for pointing that out OP.

Still I am not sure I follow the steps if I am an existing RP customer. Can i just move my RP (CDMA) SIM card into the phone, then switch it on; or do i have to buy the $40 tracphone sim card that the OP mentions is on another SD page (say for verizon), then start the iphone on that SIM only, and then wait for activation and then swap back my original RP (CDMA) SIM? That would increase the price by another $40. My aim is to not use the SM or TF minutes but the RP service which is monthly 1000 mins. Thanks

This where you can check the compatibility on your phone, since I don't have a Red Pocket cell.
According to Google SM and Red Pocket are both under the T-Mobile network, all you have to is put the red pocket sim into the new iPhone before turning it on for the 1st time.

Call red pocket to make sure your specific sim IS under Tmobile' network, since I read they vary from T-Mobile to ATT and Verizon. You have the whole day today to buy this iPhone anyway.

it's Best to check w/a rep first

OR you can buy an Rsim for $10-15 on eBay, unlock the cellphone and use it with your red pocket sim 🙂 let me know if you have any other questions

This phone works on the tracfone network.
Just don't turn it on until the Tracfone sim is inserted into this phone.

Currently Travfone has a 1yr plan for $40, Link for reference below:

ctr11Yes I want to do exactly this I want to use this phone on the $40 plan, do you have the link for the refurbished one I only see new ones. the only refurbished I see is iPhone 7
[/QUOTE]

Are these natively on Verizon where I should get the Verizon sim for the ebay service or does it matter at all which I choose?

When you click on the eBay sim deal there is a drop down option to get diff carriers.I read that all SM phones are under the T-Mobile network, but can always call cust serv to make sure, then head to the eBay deal and choose the correct carrier. Do not turn on your phone without inserting the tracfone sim first, and it will connect you automatically
