The 8's were going out of stock so fast on BF. They finally showed up in stock on WD site. Hurried up and ordered 3 of them. A couple of hours later Best Buy put them on sale but it was too late to cancel. I received the drives the other day and this is how they packaged them:

One drive was bad so I told them I wanted all 3 replaced because I didn't trust them. Who would package hard drives like that? Especially a hard drive company. Now they are out of stock and I have to wait. Best Buy is back to normal price so I have no choice but we wait. This sucks as I wanted to build the array so I could work on it this weekend. It could be a month before I get my drives.

You are incorrect. I bought 4x WD Red PLUS 6TB from Adorama for Black Friday. Short lived, but it was a live deal.

This is a great price. I think the rule of thumb has been $15 per TB so this comes in below that and no need to shuck the drive and you get the full 3 year warranty.

It's for a NAS so you don't generally need super fast drives. Plus they'll be on 24/7 so energy efficiency matters as well.

$80 for 2TB doesn't seem like a very good deal when $104 is getting 6TB…

Edit: don't know why my quote didn't work, but replying to SmoodOps…

Oh wow, I ordered 2 drives each (6TB Red Plus) from newegg and amazon and they wrapped appropriately and well. Best was from direct western digital who shipped 2 drives in a giant 20 Drive professional specialized styrofoam container... I'm keeping that forever to store drives and transport. https://imgur.com/a/eHyEMVT (pic has all my spares now in it, including a 2.5" that fits well too sideways

Yikes. I was thinking maybe I'll start buying WD instead of IronWolf but not if they can't handle the basics.

Considering I paid $80 8 years ago for 3TB drives, seems like a pretty bad deal.

I just picked up the WD externals to shuck 14TB for $160.

In all fairness that packaging is pretty funny.

I wanted these 6TB reds but out of stock everywhere, I did get an order for two of these at Amazon but not expected until mid December. I ordered two 8TB Reds from Best Buy and have them now. Not sure which to use, this will be in a Synology and probably leave it on 24/7. From my little bit of reading it seems the slower 6TB drives are a little better for noise and heat in a NAS. Anyone have any thoughts or experience between the two?
