If you sub to Netflix it's better to do the netflix bundle direct from Google. It basically gives you the chromecast for like $10

I bought this on its release day. This is my primary streaming device in living room. I don't have that remote controller issue. The device does freeze occasionally. Restarting fixes everything.
The major concern is its low available storage space. Nowadays many channels have their own streaming apps. I have Netflix, YouTube, HBO Max, Prime video, Disney+, Paramount +, CBS news, Stadia and 3 more small sized utility apps. Those apps are getting bigger every update. Available space has been zero for long time. It still works by killing cache automatically. It will be game over when cache reduces to zero.

If you use Netflix or HBO streaming services it's a better deal to get it via the Google store. You get 6 months of Netflix and the device ends up costing like ~$7 before tax etc. Or you get 3 months of HBO if you go for the HBO package - I didn't price it but I'd imagine it's a huge savings too. Otherwise this is a great deal if you just want the device!

I loved it at first. 7 months in, The remote control is useless. Half the time at works. Most of the time it freezes up. The interface in Google TV is good though. Sucks that you can't use the remote half the time to interact with it. I'm switching to Roku.

I personally like it way more than a Roku. Remote was fine for me. Did your remote go bad over time? If so maybe contact Google could be under warranty (idk).

Apparently the remote problem is a very common issue. That's the reason why they added the Android app to control it by the phone. The app doesn't control the volume or turn off the TV though. The remotes don't last. I bought it in September last year. The remote has worked sporadically since April. It freezes up any time you try to turn the volume up or down or even the TV off.

Thanks! I updated my comment to indicate this is a great deal unless you want a Netflix or HBO subscription credit, if you do then get it from the Google store as it's a great deal as you get the device below $10 (at least for Netflix, I didn't price HBO).

I got this to replace a Fire Stick 4K once I got tired of the lag and Amazon's ads. It's much better in almost every way but a few months in it does lag when waking up from "sleep" (not as bad as the Fire Stick). I also had to do a warranty exchange about a month in after the wifi kept cutting out until a manual restart. I also like it more than Roku's interface. I like the IR blaster and have it set to change the volume on my AV receiver. You can also use all remote functions when casting. To be able to change the volume using the app, you can change volume control to "Chromecast" in settings but only stereo sound works in this mode.

An incredible streaming platform /device that you plug into your TV (the device has apps for most all streaming services and an interface that also unifies all streaming services you have). It's really fast and snappy and was way better and infinitely faster than my smart TV's built-in apps and casting feature. it comes with a remote and you can use voice commands.

I've sideloaded bubbleupnp to access my favorite cable channels via the comcrap M card. Also put my vpn and cinemahd on the ccwgtv. Just got my 2nd one yesterday with the netflix bundle.
