Since Ms. Killjoy brought it up I'll give my opinion from personal experience.

Main difference is DV and the extra adjustments with "tone mapping modes" are more for people that like to tweak their PQ, example are PJ owners.
Since PJ's can't do DV the 820 is way overkill.

The 420 processes HDR better than any player in this price range(it's the same as the 820).
Since DV is dynamic HDR you get whatever the transfer of the movie gives you.
Depending on that transfer, the HDR processing on the 420 can rival a movie with DV.

The bigger difference is upscaling to 4K, the 420 does that even better.
It does it so well that depending on the transfer of the movie, BD disc may rival 4k streaming.

This player will give you the best PQ from all three disc formats and no issues that people often bring up with other players.

If you have a home theater speaker set up, physical media is worth it over streaming. If you're using the speakers built into your TV or a soundbar, you won't notice much difference with blu ray vs streaming. The immense difference is in the audio quality.

Good point. I did forget that I have actually watched a 4K disc on my projector (it just lets you know the display won't be 4K). The improvement for 4K audio would be a consideration as well.

Fully agreed that the source or disc is unequivocally the most important factor, garbage in equals garbage out. You can spend all you want on a player and it won't give you the upgrade in PQ that some "think" is significant. The key phrase in maheeinfy's response is "I think", perhaps similar to a placebo effect in medical trials, "I think therefore I am".

You are 100% correct. I've been conducting further comparisons have not seen a difference in non-4k older blu rays whatsoever. I do like the sound aspect of the 420 but that's where it ends, nothing spectacular IMO.

Speak of disc, what does 4K UHD "disc" look and sound like on that oled display and even more expensive speaker setup?
