Since Ms. Killjoy brought it up I'll give my opinion from personal experience.

Main difference is DV and the extra adjustments with "tone mapping modes" are more for people that like to tweak their PQ, example are PJ owners.
Since PJ's can't do DV the 820 is way overkill.

The 420 processes HDR better than any player in this price range(it's the same as the 820).
Since DV is dynamic HDR you get whatever the transfer of the movie gives you.
Depending on that transfer, the HDR processing on the 420 can rival a movie with DV.

The bigger difference is upscaling to 4K, the 420 does that even better.
It does it so well that depending on the transfer of the movie, BD disc may rival 4k streaming.

This player will give you the best PQ from all three disc formats and no issues that people often bring up with other players.
If you have a home theater speaker set up, physical media is worth it over streaming. If you're using the speakers built into your TV or a soundbar, you won't notice much difference with blu ray vs streaming. The immense difference is in the audio quality.
Finally, the UB820 is on sale as well.

you clearly didnt read it all...

The DP-UB9000 offers a range of audio features you won't find in Panasonic's lower-cost DP-UB820

A sentence I pulled right out out of the review
Not " basically the same"

But again

Where is your information about the majority of best Buy employees?
LOL Rofl2 "Your deflection is really making my point"

AND on TOPIC his OPINION basically agreed with my OPINION!!!

"The DP-UB9000 offers exceptional overall video performance with both Ultra HD and standard HD Blu-ray discs. Its unique features aside, I can't definitively state that it offers better SDR and HDR performance than other premium players such as my Oppo UDP-203 or Panasonic's less expensive DP-UD820"

Your own "professional reviewer" just blew your "credibility"!!!!! Paperbag Peace

Again from the article...and this is not an opinion

Again??....EEK!

Where is your source for "basically the same"?

Where is your source for "most Best Buy employees"?

Based on your continued and consistent deflection you have nothing....nod

No basis...just " coming to your own conclusions".....

I bought a used Panasonic ub820 a few weeks ago from Amazon as satisfactory status. They gave me a new one! It was for $350. Should I return it and get this instead since my qn90a don't have Dolby vision anyways

Quote from supermanrob
I wouldn't, you could easily sell it locally for $300(I would buy it for that) then buy this and you make $150 and have the same great player 👍🏻
Quote from koolmoj :
Thinking he could return it for the full $350?

Regardless, yes if you have a Samsung TV ( no DV) the 420 is the way to go.
This is the logic we are dealing with on this thread LMAO2

I know what you mean here is a better one!!!

"I have an older Pansonic blu-ray disc player DMP-BD80, a mid-level player at the time. I also have a Sony A8H OLED. I went to buy the ub420 and the salesperson talked me out of it. He said the upscaling on my TV is better than my current player and better than the upscaling in ub420. Therefore, he said I would not notice a difference in PQ with the ub420 from what I have now"

"What your saying probably makes sense for a blu ray that is actually 4k, but what about older blu ray movies that are not 4k? I believe that's what the salesman was referring to"

"I also agree with your comment about the audio and video quality in regard to 4k discs vs streaming. With that said, in many cases convenience RULES"

"DMP-BD80 and it(420) looked exactly the same" "BB employee was spot on correct"

"There was absolutely no difference in PQ between the units" "He was correct in stating that I would not see a difference in PQ when viewing older non-4k movies and I also believe my A8H upscales well compared to run-of-the-mill TVs."

"if a more modern player could add additional value by enhancing the PQ even further"

"I'm surprised with a Dolby overhead layout you don't have the 820 with DV. My sound system dwarfs the cost of the OLED"

So let's see the LOGIC here.....

Let's buy one of the most expensive & best displays and use a even more expensive sound setup.
We use a regular blu ray player for disc content because a BB employee told us a new modern 4k player won't be any better and we can just watch compressed 4K streaming and we just believe the PQ & AQ are pretty much the same since ultimately CONVENIENCE RULES!

I completely understand what statistical data is......I dont think you do

When you use the term "Most Best Buy employees"...that implies a statistical number of most employees
You have provided nothing statistical or opinion wise to substantiate that

When you say the 9000 is basically an 820...you have provided nothing professional or statistically to substantiate that

So basically..just " coming to own conclusions" with nothing to back anything up..YET AGAIN
Turnne, I don't think you realize that according to our expert that Panasonic has it all wrongDigging. The 9000, 820, and 420 are all basically the same players so their pricing is completely incorrect.

Yes...and we also have to remember that the "majority of Best Buy employees dont know what they are talking about"

As for proof or any statistical information......who needs that right?

LOL...."I don't think you realize"(not surprised) if your main concern is "Ultra HD and standard HD Blu-ray discs" performance, "professional experts" said they are "basically" the same here is the quote:

"The DP-UB9000 offers exceptional overall video performance with both Ultra HD and standard HD Blu-ray discs. Its unique features aside, I can't definitively state that it offers better SDR and HDR performance than other premium players such as my Oppo UDP-203 or Panasonic's less expensive DP-UD820"

If you believe you NEED Dolby Vision(not the same as Dolby Atmos Coverlaugh ) or you believe you NEED "unique features" like say "a range of audio features you won't find in Panasonic's lower-cost DP-UB820" they are not "basically" the same and priced accordingly!( it's not rocket science!) Doh

None of this may not matter since BB LOGIC says a 4K player adds no value over a regular Blu Ray player and apparently 4K streaming is good enough since "CONVENIENCE RULES" Snowshovel Facepalm

Is there anyway we can program this Blu-Ray Dics Player remote control to control Samsung TV for AV input and Volume?
Thanks!
