Great mesh router. Have one myself. I tested this and orbi from costco and this one has a much faster wifi backhaul. Its too bad this thing is so expensive. Didnt even really see any black friday deals for this. Cheapest i could find was $350. I also recommend using firmware 42095. Its the most stable

If you want total customization over your mesh network, this is the brand to get, but for the price you are not getting the best performing mesh units out there. The fastest system that's cheaper is the TP-Link X5700, just putting it out there for anyone looking to take advantage of a full 1Gbps over Wifi, the AX5700 can out put around 1.4Gbps over wifi to a proper client, making it 1/3 to almost 2X faster which are all around 800-900Mbps. That is without wired backhaul which would actually bottle neck unless you are using 2.5Gbps or faster port and switches.

This or 3 pack Orbi 753s AX4200 from Costco or 2 router pack Nest Wifi from Amazon? Need it for home security & streaming primarily and not for gaming.
Go with the costco three pack. The warranty/return policy alone at costco makes it a better deal.

Where is this supposed $200 TP-LINK product you speak of? Surely said product you're referring to is also tri-band as well? Right?
dual tri band doesnt matter at all for 99% use case. tplink deco 60 is enough. anyway firmware not stable or its not making much difference to the over all internet speed

I believe these can be split into 2x ax6600 triband wifi6 routers if not using as mesh. They should have the usual free lifetime trendmicro protection, ddns, etc (unlike Netgear which charges for everything monthly)

I can confirm the FW 42095 is the best stable for XT8 right now. Don't try to upgrade higher version, it can make your wifi speed is terrible and drop the signal all the time.

Great mesh router. I got it for a little bit above $400 around 18 months ago and it was a great price after discount. To add more mesh node, I was considered getting one or two more but it was too expensive. I ended up getting the AX55 for $70 (after 30% off reward discount) as additional node and it works great.
I'm still thinking about AX82U or AX86U to make the main router and let XT8 like a node. I think that the best way to get full signal coverage 3000sqt house.

I have this, four nodes in total.....it's ok but there's a bug if you have verizon fios (which i have). I have gigabit speeds, 940 up/down, and you will not get that with these. Upload in particular is slower, around 3-400 at best. Yes I've tried everything, updating/downgrading firmware, replacing units, went on forums to try to see a solution, even tried a suggestion to place a switch in between, still no difference. There are plenty of features/options for this, so I believe it's a good system. But if you have Verizon fios, there's better alternatives speed wise. I was getting better speeds on their quantum router, my old orbi wifi 5 system than this.
What's your suggestion for Fios 1G service? I've got wired backhaul on three floors, and I've been exhaustively researching the space but can't seem to find a solution that doesn't have some fatal flaw (almost always resulting in speeds that don't come close to approaching 1G).

I've had these a couple years now I guess. They are absolutely the best wireless 'mesh' routers money can buy if you care about technical details.

I can pull about 90% speed from the wifi backhauled satellite over wifi. Nothing else I've had even came close, even other tribands.

They update the firmware pretty regularly, the system is ultra configurable. My only complaint is the price. I paid full price for them which hurt the wallet. But they were worth it then, and definitely worth it at this price.

All of that said, one has to decide whether 6e is important. Asus has already released a new version of this, which uses 6e as the backhaul. So no client connections, oddly enough.

If 6e takes off, this is a lot of money for something that's outdated. But I personally think it will take years until that day comes.

how is the handoff/transfer feature between the two when it comes to mobile phones? i have a couple of older asus routers set up in aimesh mode, and the handoff is very poor when it comes to using iphones with wifi calling and facetime. going from one area to another can cause signal drop and disconnect.

I faced the speed and connectivity issues with Orbi from costco. Has been dealing with tech support for nearly a month with no success.
Frequent disconnects and ultra low speeds. My outdated google wifi works reall well with a stable connection and Orbi failed miserably. My ISP speed is 600/600 when measured at Orbi ports. Orbi only delivers 100mb max. Most frustrating issue is disconnects. 5 out of 10 ping to the gateway 10.0.0.1 get timed out.

Because of those issues i bought this XT8. I observed the speed is slightly better than Orbi as it is about 250 mbps still not even close to ISP speed. The problem with disconnects is there with xt8 too but not frequent as Orbi. Upgraded the firmware from the factory flashed version as suggested by the support. No change.
The disconnects seems to be specifically for 5GHZ-1 band whereas 2 4 and 5GHZ-2 works well most of the time.
Im thinking of returning both Orbi and this xt8 back to the store and wait until i get something stable with a decent speed. Going back to my Old google wifi refurb. Pretty old, but stable.
These junk boxes not worth the money.

Not sure how many of you experienced such issues..but i will not shell out money for the highly unstable firmwares.

Note: AT&T gateway configured for IP passthru fixed mode. All radios , packet filters and firewalls disabled.
