It's a Tri-Band Mesh system (2.4,5-1,5-2) that let's you dedicate the 5-2 band to act solely as the communication band between the routers and nothing else. Each router has 3 LAN ports that will allow you to plug your devices via ethernet, making those devices think they're on a wired connection instead of wireless. There's less chance of interference since your going from wired to dedicated wireless band to the modem.

The wireless adapters in the Xbox and PS4, while fast, can't match their ethernet ports in terms of stability and speed.

Hope that helps, I'm not the most tech savvy person, but that's the information I found when I was researching Mesh router systems about a year ago when I was in the market for one.

You'll find a lot of reviews disparaging this advanced mesh system. In my experience, many of the reviewers are somewhat inexperienced in home networking or at least in more advanced home networking. This system is very powerful but also comes with an extra layer of complexity/options that probably many people will not understand or use. Expect to spend a little time with the system to dial things in and it will provide excellent speeds and coverage for the foreseeable future.

Absolutely love this set, my favorite feature is the ability to hardwire into the remote router to use the dedicated backhaul channel. With this, my Xbox and Ps4 download significantly faster than over WiFi.

Which orbi 3 pack? I'm looking for something similar and this might fit the bill.

If you like having a full feature set of firmware and not basic options this is the mesh set for you. Performance is very solid as the units can get around 900Mbps on the wireless.

If you are just worried about performance and dont mind basic settings, Tp-Link AX5700 way better deal as its speeds can hit up to 1.4Gbps over wireless.

I would most certainly prefer this. AsusWRT > Netgear's interface, in my opinion.

This is a very good deal. I have purchased multiple units of these, and they are by far the best router I've ever owned. (One of my setups is 2x XT8 + 2x XD4s; creates a great AiMesh setup.)

The deal puts me in a little bit of a conundrum because I just bought a pair of white XT8s at B&H for $393.82 OTD (no tax because I have the Payboo card). This Amazon deal is great, but with tax at my location, it comes out to about $408...slightly more than what I just paid at B&H.

I'm going to submit a price match request and see if B&H will match the Amazon price, which would let me get the best of both worlds (no tax + $377 PTD). But I don't have the highest hopes they will.

I wish ASUS would release a tri-band for routers like the RT-AX86. I would buy two and slap Merlin on both for mesh since I don't have a wired house.

If you are gonna damn near spend $400 for a set of routers, you might as well spend the extra $150 to future proof it with wifi 6E.
