I'm guessing dedicated weight lifters will get something of higher quality and for the rest of us there are cheaper places to hang your clothes
Repost. Mine is arriving on the 20th. I can't wait to see how the box is damaged and what parts are missing.
This thing is absolute garbage. Just sold mine for $50 and glad to get rid of it.

There's the effect of the muscles engaged, too, sure. But torque is the main culprit. When the weight is in a line only a couple of inches from your joint, it's easier to lift than when it's a couple of feet. Holding it at arms length is literally an order of magnitude more torque. a one armed snatch vs a fly is a better example since it's more similar muscle activation.

If you want to do the experiment in the best manner, hold your arm out with the weight in hand. Then, do the same thing but put the weight on your upper arm, using your other hand to hold it in place. Ankle weights are good for this example since they won't crush your foot to dust if they fall. Closer to the joint means less torque for your muscles to overcome. The same exact weight acts as if it's heavier or lighter based on where it is.

Dude I know how leverage works, but your example is 100% gibberish. As far as weight used for major muscle group exercises, back is second to legs while shoulders is last. Comparing back and shoulders in terms of weight is entirely nonsensical.

And yet, every year, a bunch of people break their backs because of the torque of 20lbs of snow on a shovel a long distance away from the fulcrum.

112lbs of stack weight doesn't mean your max lift is 112 lb. simple and done.

You are correct at a high level, but have your description exactly backwards regarding how much distance the weight travels when it is providing more resistance.
When the weight stack is providing more resistance than the stated weight it has to travel MORE distance than the user. Your fulcrum example shows this.
Work is Force * Distance, so Force is Work/Distance.
Pressing 200lbs for 1 foot is twice as much work as pressing 100lbs for 1 foot, and requires twice the force. However, you can also double the distance that the 100lb weight travels to equal the same amount of work. At the users end this doubles the force.
Your fulcrum example actually shows this as well. The ankle weight you mention travels a lot further if it's in your hand and you curl it (harder) than if it's near your elbow and you curl it (easier).

Correct. The moral is don't post while mad at your football team. Smilie

In reality, levers/pulleys aren't usually the only way this is handled in these machines. Some use spring equivalents (Bowflex) and some use variable friction. The most common setup is to use pulleys with unequal amounts of cables on one side, not dissimilar to the physics problem where you stand on a platform and elevate it by pulling on a rope draped over a pulley vs someone else pulling that rope.

Ordered on Friday around 1:30 pm Pacific Time. Still has not shipped. Walmart better not screw this up.

I have seen at times when I order big items, it sits there and is stuck in the system.

Got mine two weeks ago. Box was damaged. Everything inside was perfect. It comes with two boxes that came on different days. Only one tracking number was provided so that was a pain. It works great but took a while to put together

Does the weights come in the other box? I started assembling with one box thinking I have everything. After unpacking the box and laying everything on the floor, I am seeing that the weights are missing.

Woah, just got it today (Jan 20). 2 boxes.

Now what mat to buy for it to cover this plus some extra space? Any suggestions?

Footprint: 78.6" H x 37.6" W x 63.63" L

Would that mean a 4 foot wide x 6 foot length be good?

Same what's a good map for this on carpet. And 36 in is 3 ft so it's just a little over 3 ft wide and 5 ft 3 inches Long

We are missing box 2 as well. Were you able to resolve it? We haven't opened box 1 yet. Building this coming weekend.
