This is an OK card to have combined with a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve for the transfer to upvalue points but as far as being SLICK well there are a lot slicker card sign up bonuses. My wife just picked up 150,000 points with Amex Platinum that we are working on the 6 month spend and that is pretty slick compared to this.
You're right, but it depends on your situation. For me, I was just starting out with building my credit card portfolio, and wanted to start with Chase because of 5/24. Since I had several projects coming up, I figured this deal was the best way to go because many of the projects were urgent. I actually got denied initially and got approved by the reconsideration department. They started me out with a 3k limit, which wasn't enough to cover some of the projects. I then moved to the Flex and then the Preferred, which I am working on right now (I hate I missed the 80k window)
If I had to do it over again I might have started with the Sapphire Preferred, since it has a guaranteed higher minimum limit, but chase might not have approved me for that if it was my first card with them and I'm building my portfolio.
If you already have a number of cards and/or are established already, you can do much better for 20k spend.
or is it not?
The best use for the Freedom Unlimited is to pair with the Sapphire Preferred or Reserve and roll the cash back over to the Sapphire's rewards points.
Don't you need Sapphire card to transfer points to a partner airline?

Chase sapphire has come ahead of all the other ones, with AA card a close second.
Can anyone advice on which is more slick and worth the annual fee, the preferred or the reserve?
Mine mostly goes unused and I barely ever touch it these days.
1.5% cashback on everything is just not a good deal in 2023.

You guys are both misunderstanding what the deal is.
it's not 1.5% cash back on everything for 20k of spend.
It's an extra 1.5x UR points on top of the normal reward points
This is pointed out in the very first post- it means for that 20k of spend you're getting 6.5x on travel through the UR portal... 4.5x on dining and drugstores, and 3x on everything else
And again, these are chase UR points, not merely cash.
So if you travel significantly you're going to be getting anywhere from 1.5-2.5 cents per point on the low end... to 4-8 cents a point on the high end.
Times the 3x, 4.5x or 6x earning multiplier.
