Unless the quality has changed these are sturdy portable drives. I have several versions of these.

Price comparison.

What makes this especially good for Xbox?

What versions are there? I see one labeled gen 1. Is there a gen 2?

I thought these came with a USB-C cabe. It doesn't specify.

It specifies System Requirements and lists game consoles and Win but not Linux.
Isn't it a storage drive that can be used as any other storage drive for anything?

Does it come with software or security?

The last time this came around, it had the same HDD in it the My Passport has in it.
For XBox you really want an SSD, not this. Adding an external SSD made a huge improvement in my load times on an XBox One X. I moved all my games to an external 2 TB drive. I used an MX500 but probably any decent SSD is fine.

On Series S/X you can run XBox One games off an external drive but not S/X versions of games. Would be retarded to use this slow drive on an XBox Series S/X.

So how does this work on the Xbox and ps5 especially? Can you run games off it on the series X? Ps5 you need to load them onto the main HDD? It's all kinda new to me thx
For both platforms, you can run previous gen games (PS4 and Xbox One or before) directly off of the external drive. For "next gen" games (PS5 and Xbox S/X enhanced), the games need to be installed on the internal drive. You can download "next gen" games to the external drive, though, and copy them over to internal drive when you want to play them. The advantage of that is that it's usually a lot faster over USB than from the Internet.

How does this compare to the 5TB Seagate from Costco? I bought the Seagate on sale before Christmas for about the same price but haven't opened it yet.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 is just a fancy way of saying USB 3.1
but it doesn't matter most HDDs don't even max out SATA 2.0 (300MB/s) so USB 3.1 is plenty (rest is marketing). this is the generic version game drive - not the XBox (includes 1-mo of XBU).
it does have a 3-YR wty which may make it more suitable for games.

This is gen 3.2 so it works with? I still haven't snagged a PS5 yet but as an additional external hard drive it's not fast enough still? I know it would most likely still work on my PS4 but in the switch when I do finally land a PS5 these wouldn't work or they would? Everyone tries on the PS5 to do internal nvme that's gen 4 that's why I wonder. This might be different being external or?

I don't believe that will ever be possible due to the PS5 design. External connection to the PS5 can only be done through USB interfaces, which are technically cannot be fast enough as required by PS5 to run games. The only way to expand space to run PS5 games is to add an internal SSD to the expansion slot.

A side note, this limitation is not on the Xbox Series S/X as there is an external proprietary expansion slot that provides the needed speed.

I actually like the USB 3.0 Micro B connector. It's wider than C, Mini B or Micro B and feels more secure/robust.

It's another cable to carry if you use it on the go, but I've never found carrying one additional short cable to be a burden. I usually carry portable hard drives in a small protective case which usually has space/pocket for the small cable, anyway.

I absolutely LOVE these. Just grabbed another, which would be my 3rd 5TB drive. Also have 2x 4TB version as well. These just feel super sturdy. They're problem free (so far) and just nice to look at. I'm using the 2x 5TB for external data for my laptop and data backup from various sources. The backup drive is always kept in a fireproof safe. The 2x 4TB one is being used for my PS5 and 1 for my Xbox Series X. This one just ordered will be replacing an old 2TB external drive currently being used on my Xbox Series S. Thanks for the heads-up, OP!
So it works great for gaming them? Need an external drive for my PC to store my extra games that allows runs them well. I could get a 4TB internal or this which gives me more flexibility in the future
