I've bought a lot of Easystores and Elements and the drives inside are exactly the same. Even the carrier and the SATA-USB converters look the same. Granted I'm shucking the majority of my drives but I can't imagine them running any different if they are still in the enclosure.
Must be the enclosure, then. I haven't shucked mine (I've heard some stories about WD trying to use that to wiggle out of the warranty if there's an issue).

Didn't 14TB hit like $180 before? Shouldn't this be closer to $200 by now?

It was $170 on Newegg back in November. I picked up 4 of them myself.

I still have a sealed 10TB, but wouldn't mind a 14TB to shuck inside a new Desktop.

Yeah the 14TB seems to be the sweet spot when on sale. I replaced 14 3TB drives and dropped my power consumption by like a 130W and even added space. Not to mention replacing 8 year old drives, although they served me well. I only had 1 drive failure, and it literally happened right before I started migrating to the 14's.

It's strange you had this experience.. I've shucked a fair number of both Elements and Easystores and the disks are typically the same. I think the vibration dampening in the Easystore cases is probably inferior, but unless there are significant firmware differences, the heat issue you had is odd.

I can say that there is an insignificant difference in temps once these drives are loaded into a cooled disk shelf, and the performance is identical.
What do you do with the enclosures after you shuck the drive ?

Save them in case you need to warranty the drive.

Gee, is 100 dollars extra for 2TB drive difference really that much of a good deal.

Let's examine this, many people during Nov-Dec bought ( less than one month ago) 14tb on Newegg for 170 dollars, and same with Best Buys version for 170 dollars with BB recyle program of old hard drives, thumb drives, and ssd stuff. A number of slick-dealers told you in this thread.

So, 170 dollars for 14TB and 16TB is 270 dollars. (extra 2 TB for 100 dollars).

another example of Jan markup ... Amazon show 8 2nd gen was 59 dollars during Nov/Dec and today is selling for 109 dollars. Prices are up in Jan, and come down during some holiday sales.

We understand some absolutely need the drive ASAP, and are willing to buy high. Are you buying 2 or 6 of these at this price?

p.s. I wouldn't have posted this , but when I see it is 5 stars (TU) ... and others saw what slickdealers were telling you in this thread, I just figured I would post, and saying about 100 dollars for 2TB difference to make it plainer. Smilie

I try my best to not destroy the housings (haven't had much luck with Seagate externals), and keep them around for returns.

The SATA-USB converters can actually be pretty useful by themselves, and I now have far too many 12VDC converters.
