As mentioned above, you are getting REALLY close to enterprise hard drive with 5 years of warranty pricing. Amazon has WD DC HC550 18TB drives for $311, minus 5% with chase or Amazon CC. So like $295.
Unless you can't be bothered with buying your own enclosure, I wouldn't buy this. This is a lot of money to roll the dice on with such a short hard drive warranty.

The sketchy thing about getting the drives off Amazon (that I'm experiencing right now) is that sellers on Amazon buy those HC550s by the OEM pallet (as if they're Dell or HP Enterprise, equipping their severs) and instead sell them piecemeal. So you won't get a warranty from WD (most likely), but the sellers typically offer you the same warranty period. Your choice if you want to gamble that. personally I'm messaging the seller, getting them to say they offer a 5 year warranty explicitly in chat, so Amazon can step in later if needed.
the downside from this is that they obviously ship re-sealed drives. I just got a 'new' HC550 that was DOA - won't power on sometimes, and when it does, bad sectors abound.
It -can- be worth it, but from now on I think I'm going to stick to either shucking or buying direct from manufacturer if I want the for-sure warranty.

Patiently waiting for it to drop down to the 14TB price ($14.23/TB)
This is $16.25/TB
Good price though

Your patience should be rewarded. I've started to see 8 TB HDDs going on clearance for $12.50/TB (or less), which I take as an early indication that higher capacity HDD prices are likely to be dropping soon.
