Unfortunately, the insurance companies are playing the "we weren't ready for this" game. At least with Horizon, getting reimbursed requires printing out forms and sending itemized receipts through the mail. I ordered some of theses tests yesterday, but when I saw the reimbursement process I canceled it. Apparently eventually you'll be able to just show your insurance card at certain pharmacies and not have to pay any upfront cost, even online. But most insurance companies are probably weeks away from that, at best. Right now the best option seems to be to just order the free tests from the government.

Honestly, the incentive to provide that service is pretty good -- if insurance companies pay up front, they only ow $12/test. If they force people to file for reimbursement, they owe the *FULL* value of the test, even if it's more than $12 -- insurance companies are going to get this online as soon as possible.

Bought 2 kits (4 samples). Can we buy 2 kits per each person in family? or is it 2 kits for primary person insured?
8 test/person/month.

Can you please explain the process a bit so I can replicate?
I had to go to Caremark to submit my reimbursement. A simple few questions and then uploaded my email confirmation. Now need to wait.

That's not how anything works in pharmacy. The pharmacy has to bill the insurance and that takes time and interrupts the work flow.
This is directly from an email I received from Horizon:

"If you buy the tests at the pharmacy counter or have tests shipped to you from a pharmacy, you do not need to submit claims, and there will be no out of pocket costs."

So hopefully there will be an option to order from online preferred pharmacies, enter your insurance information, and then have it shipped at no upfront cost. Again, we'll see.

They could make it that easy. My knowledge is way pre COVID — I moved out of retail before even flu shots were a thing — so I don't know if things have gotten better or worse in regards to PBMs handing off medical claims. But the electronic claims part of the "insurance billing" in pharmacy takes a literal second, if we are talking pharmacy benefits (utilizing PBMs and NCPDP standards), which of course we probably aren't. And assuming the PBM is not dragging their dicks for the patients to trip over, and is on board for taking care of people, which again they probably aren't. But the glass half full view would be that the PBM can police what is being purchased and how often (we all know how great they are at that— "sorry sir you've exceeded your 6 viagra / imitrex this month"), and the clerk should only have to enter in the PCN/Group/ID/DOB. All they should need to speed things up would be a universal QR code containing whatever they need (PCN, group, ID) then DOB from a license check and people be on their way. Wishful thinking, I know.

Blue shield of California said I need to mail out a form along with my receipt and the UPC of the box to see if my claim gets approved. What a hassle. Making it super hard for the consumer. Who even uses snail mail nowadays.

Get 4 tests for free on the USPS website instead. These used to be $5 less, sad that in a time of need they gouge further.
That was a temporary arrangement to sell at cost that Walmart had with the White House.

Thanks. Got 4 boxes. Aetna has a pretty streamlined claims process for reimbursement. Guess we'll see how quick it is.
Just ordered and submitted my claim, did you get an email or anything once you submitted the claim? I've had this insurance for 8 yrs and never actually submitted a claim for anything.LOL

Processing a claim isn't complicated. The pharmacy is understaffed and overworked and can't stop what they're doing just to process claims for covid tests. I'm not sure where you worked, bust most pharmacies are not able to keep up with the work they already have. Anything the technician submits through insurance still has to be verified by a pharmacist before it can leave the pharmacy.

PCR is way more sensitive. These tests basically tell you if you are shedding enough particles to be considered contagious to a fully vaxxed and boosted person. 94-96% accuracy assuming tests are done correctly. It's possible you all had it, but we're not shedding enough particles at the time for the test to pick them up.

Regence Blue Shield sent an email that all we need is the insurance card. The pharmacy does the rest.

Thanks! In for 2 boxes. I ordered my free sets yesterday, but these will be here this Tuesday and I should be able to get reimbursement via Aetna.
