few in stock in my area but passing on it , have dewalt tools and trying to stick with that. I did pick up the husqvarna trimmer at $59. I still use a stihl gas blower that is about 8 years old and works great. If the dewalt combo goes on sale Ill probably buy

I like that it has slow charger as theoretically that should preserve battery life (fast vs trickle charge). When I charge milwaukee m18 battery on its rapid charger, i can smell chemicals / stuff. On the slow charger it's less / no smell. From the videos i've seen, this trimmer seems to be very efficient - the blower, ill rely on the 4 batteries from the lawn mower

Knowing Makita, the slow charger (pretty sure I found it on their site, but don't have the model handy) will treat batteries about the same as the rapid charger in terms of babying them - it works slower because it can't cool the batteries. Rapid one communicates with the pack and keeps the temp low enough to charge at the pace that it does without much effect otherwise. Would be cool if project farm or similar tested the packs by running them down a few hundred times and recharging on different chargers.

String trimmer is indeed pretty efficient, though I had to respool it because it wasn't unspooling and was tangled internally. Blower absolutely chews through 4ah batteries, but it also pushes a silly amount of air for a tool that size.

Note that there are 3 optional tubes that you can purchase separate from the blower. Just got mine and can confirm the following two work:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08QDX9TR8/
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074CR32VG/

(The first is an adapter / extension that requires the second one to fit on this blower).

This one should also work if you want to further extend the reach:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074CR281W/

Note that some of them are available as 'Amazon warehouse' items for a few dollars off - these are probably brand new returns by the folks who did not realize they need (or do not need) the adapter.

Just as an FYI, the battery in mine out of the box was about 12.8v which is very low (no lights at all), though not critically so. It's charging fine once I popped it on the charger, hopefully without harm to capacity. Seems like some of these kits sat for quite a while.
I believe most lithium batteries would ship around 10% of charge. This is done for both fire safety and store longevity reasons. Lithium batteries don't like to be stored unused at full charge.

i hope they come out with a add on so you can wind the string with the cap on, instead of trying to juggle wind on the spool. the new m18 and other models allow for this (im guessing the new makita does as well). I looked for a prewound spool like they sell for black and decker or ryobi trimmers, but no one seems to make them for a 2 string model that is cheap. the 1 string prewounds are so cheap its worth it to pay for the convenience / laziness.

Most ship higher than that, usually 40-60%. Lithium batteries don't like extreme ends of charge, with empty being the worst if they sit - it will kill cells permanently if they sit long enough. 10% would end up dead in the warehouse or on store shelves within six months to a year. Previous Makita kit I bought came with batteries that showed two bars out of four, for reference. This one not even the blinky light. But thankfully seems fine.

Saw two of the string trimmer only @ $99 at my local HD (Seattle SoDo). Did not see any packages with the blower.

xru23 from the recent $200 combo kit last year has the "easy+load" spool, but the arbor is different size. This one I think I'll just live with, throwing more money at it trying to upgrade diminishes the savings from buying this kit. Our yard is tiny so twisting some string on once in a while isn't a big deal. To people with bigger yards this might be an issue.

BS said 4 in stock at Issaquah, I went there and bought 1. Saw at least 2 more (1 with clearance sticker, 1 unmarked but with same model number). They were right under the pallets (highest shelf), had to get employee to grab them. Look for the model number someone posted earlier.

Rang up at $139

It may not be marked clearance. You have to pay close attention to the model number. Have a worker scan the barcode from brickseek to verify the price and scour the store for your treasure.
