This is with bestbuy, so no bill credit involved, it's instant trade in value that deducts from the sale price, and tax is on the deducted selling price too. Don't mislead others.

ATT is $100 cheaper further. $500 for mini and $600 for regular. But trade in values are horrible.

T-Mo is still the best in value overall.

I created a T-Mobile $20 account over the phone with an eSIM today on the phone (not the one I'm trading in). I signed up for the 3 text messages above. I keep getting either SSN doesn't match or please try again, issue is fixed error when prompted with the upgrade option.

Anyone have the same problem?

Okay I think as a non TMobile customer and just wanting the device not TMobile service I know what to do. I should go to TMobile store sign up for $20/mo talk and text sim card. Then do best buy trade in. After 40 days unlock the phone and cancel service. In theory only $26.66 pro rated for service and I can trade iphone 12 mini for iphone 13 for $174. $200.66 total and I go from 64GB phone to 128GB

Can you do this more than once on the same line? Eg sign up as new custy, trade in phone, then next day upgrade (another older iPhone)

That's a blatant violation of the privacy. They are already violating by taking your license. Have you seen Samsung take license info for trade-in. They are abusing their monopoly power.
Pawn shops do the same, it depends on state laws. Do agree with you, it felt weird to give my license and finger print but I had already seen this process on Hardcore Pawn so I went along

If I sign up for the $20, I'll get a credit pull right?

Some folks may have a Chase Debit card account 10% Cash back offer with Bestbuy. I have the offer, which will help further sweeten this deal.

Yes. Pick up the order, repeat. So far there's no limit on how many times you can upgrade the same line.

They are not violating your privacy. You are trading in a phone, and they are taking precautions to ensure the device you are trading in isn't stolen. Also if you don't like it, they are not forcing you to trade in your devices. They do not require the information to sell you a device.
Funny

Glad I don't live in "one of those states" as they are clearly violating your privacy beyond needing your drivers license and possibly last 4 of SSN here. . .That should be more than enough, as TMO is footing the bill for the bonus amount. . .I would think their bigger concern is people trading in for unlocked phones with no account attached. . .or buy and instant cancels of new lines. . .or people doing same deal on same line multiple times same month.

Hardcore Pawn. . .loved that show. Wouldn't doubt that requirement in the Detroit area. Didn't that show end 7 years ago or is it still streaming new somewhere?

I a mentioned earlier but just warning you guys these iPhones are universal SKU and not locked to any carrier until the first sim is inserted. I locked one of these to Verizon and now won't work for Tmobile. But does work with my Verizon, Verizon Prepaid, Visible and Yahoo Mobile sims. Not a big deal for me as I have the service for the business line but just food for thought.

Verizon doesn't do unlock codes on iPhones they automatically unlock after 60 days which is ok with me I'll just use it on my business line for 2 months no biggie.

Lol I wish it were, the show didn't try to hide how scripted it was. Made it so much more fun to watch

It only got canceled because TLC was rebranding it's channel and it didn't fit image (some bs like that). The actual ratings were insanely high

Costco doesn't take license info for trade-in. They already have the account information on which the upgrade was used if something goes wrong. Just because another store does it, doesn't make it right. ATT takes license info for picking up $5 item. Macys does the same. Required by law? Of-course not. Just abuse of your data privacy. They sell all your info for money.

I dont think this is T-Mobile throwing to BBY but BBY doing it ? no why would they give it out? Tmo is not gaining anything here..
T-Mobile took over Sprint, and Sprint and Best Buy had a long-standing relationship; Best Buy was a huge reseller partner for Sprint phones & service. That benefited Sprint with more wireless customers, and benefited Best Buy with more "foot traffic". So I suspect T-Mobile is investing in Best Buy to maintain the relationship as the Sprint brand is discontinued.
