that's a 600 dollar prime lens, making the camera just about 1.3k. this is not some crappy kit lens that you often find with camera bundles.
i am surprised this is not get more attention, personally speaking, this is a much better deal than the previous MFT sale.

The GH6 should be MFT. This one is FF.

Killer deal and I love mine, run it with the BMD Video Assist 12g and images are fantastic, especially with the LUMIX glass… but newer sigma glass L-mount glass is exceptional too… I don't use it for vlogging but AF has been snappy and clean for my needs. Got it for $1,699 during Xmas sales, at this price with the 85, it's a smoking deal. Richard Wong does great comparisons and demos with the S5 on YouTube, lots of AF stuff on different glass for those that are curious.

Having owned a couple of these cameras for the past year, they're really solid. Especially for the price.

For the video users:
Crop sensor in 4k60p. But you can also get full frame 5.9k out and record it. Anamorphic options. Dual iso (clean at 4000). Focus peaking, zebras and plenty of function buttons to set your own settings. Ibis stabilization is great, even better with the dual ibis combination of pani lenses and sensor. Dual recording. Battery life is good for the size of the battery. Overall I've loved this camera. Auto focus isn't going to be as good as the others but works okay for simple scenes. I run it with the fotodiox variable nd l mount to canon ef mount which is really convenient for run in gun situations.

Photo
Great performance but I haven't loved it for sports with fast moving action. You also have to worry about moire since it doesn't have a filter that helps reduce that. For portraits where certain materials in clothing have issues, this can be annoying.

Overall, the price is great. Lmount is gaining some traction. 20-60 is worth it for $300. It's really light weight and the 20mm vs 24 is handy. Plus you get the dual stabilization. Unless you're set on buying something like the sigma 24-70 2.8, get the kit lens. I do like the colors out of these cameras and I feel like vlog is one of the better flat profiles to grade in video.
20-60 won't give dual stabilization, it doesn't have ois in the lens. That said the ibis with the kit lens looks pretty good

Ah you're right. I have the 24-105 which does and i use it on occasion. But yes, the 20-60 stabilizes really well on the s5 without the stabilization built into the lens.

I have 2 Panasonic S5's. You will not find a better FF for pictures and video for the price.

I recently bought my second S5 at B&H for $1697.99 with an additional -$200 off each lens. (I bought the 50mm 1.7 and 85mm 1.8)

I've pretty much settled for the A7IV once I get the money set aside with a plan to pick up a 24-70 2.8 sigma, but what would be the tradeoff going with the S5? It appears to be similar video capabilities, less capable AF, less stabilization and lower MP for stills. Are there any advantages over the sony?

I understand these are different price points given the deal, but the S5 typically retails for around the $2k mark with the a7iv at $2500, and most reviewers and such go with he S1H as their go-to video camera. I'm going to be jumping back into portrait work again soon so still are currently my focus, but previously I have turned down some hybrid video work as I wasn't confident in my previous camera's video capabilities.

Edit/Update: was able to look into it a bit more: S5 is definitely more "Capable" when it comes to video, with 6k external recording and better IBIS, raw video recording, with a Caveat of 30 min recording limits on 4k. However, the A7IV seems to be far superior AF performance, and it seems unlikely I would need raw video so the DR with Sony's flat profiles seems good enough for myself. Everything else in the stills department (AF, resolution, FPS, etc) is in favor of the A7IV Going to pass and continue planning on the A7IV purchase in the next few months.

All that said, this seems like an amazing camera for this deals price point.

I think the IBIS on the Panasonic is better for video. I could be wrong though.

As someone that was deeply invested in the Panasonic MFT ecosystem and moved to the Sony a7IV I can confidently say that unless Panasonic completely revamped and updated their AF for the S5, it probably still isn't very good compared to the competition.

Overall I'm extremely happy moving to the a7IV especially since there are so many great 3rd party lenses to choose from. I do miss the "pro" features that Panasonic has like shutter angle, HDMI raw output, and built-in waveform monitoring but the Sony A7IV simply does what I want it to without fighting and the video/images look incredible even in terrible lighting.

At this price point the battle between S5 and a7IV becomes a lot more difficult. But definitely look into the available lenses before you lock-in to a new camera system. Also ask yourself how important continuous video AF is for you as the Panasonic implementation is not great.

Essential you're paying $2000 for AF?

A MSRP Sony a7IV and 85mm f1.8 is $1200 more than this deal.

With the a7IV you are getting: A much better and robust lens ecosystem, unlimited record times, 10bit 4:2:2 on all modes, higher max bitrate, better EVF, more megapixels, and better low light capabilities. Not to mention the aforementioned AF that simply destroys the S5's.

Again all that is a moot point depending on how and what you shoot. But it's definitely something to think about if someone is a run and gun shooter that doesn't have a focus puller to rely on.

Also depends on what kind of run and gun you are doing. Sony A7IV stabilization for hand held video will not be as good as the S5 by any means. So if you are doing run and gun video and don't want to have a rig or stabilizer, the S5 will actually be better in that regard, but if you are doing vlog style, then it won't.

I was holding out for A7C, but if I'm mainly taking family photos, would you recommend S5 or A7C?
The smaller size of the A7C making it more discrete and better autofocus might be a better option for family photos, especially if you mean family photos with kids, where you just don't want to worry or think about using continuous autofocus

The S5 would still be good, but A7C might have some advantages for that specific use case.

Agree, just compared S5 + 2060 with my A7R4 + Tamron 2875 yesterday. Sony system performs much better when took photos for the kids, they were running around and riding bikes. I know this was not fair, A7R4 and the lens are much expensive than S5. But Panasonic's problem is the AF feels like a bit weird and slow. Sony got much quicker and accurate.
Also another question, does S5 have eye focus system? My friend was very crazy for the eye focus on my Sony. I advised him to save some money, and change to A7iv maybe this black friday.

Just got this - I'm former photography person but haven't done it for years but was going to get the a7 4 - this seemed like it fit my needs (not being a pro that is hyper concerned with perfect autofocus) and is way less money. Good deal. Also Samy's now has this package with both the extra battery and 128gb card.
