It looks like the Samsung store also just recently dropped the 2TB 980 Pro to $252 [samsung.com] or 2TB 970 EVO to $180 [samsung.com] for those qualifying for education discounts (and are offering pretty high cashback amounts for referral sites).

You might find yourself thinking, "well it's just $20 difference, I'll buy the 980 with the heatsink to protect this expensive storage". Don't. Not only this dinky heatsink doesn't actually help dropping temperature significantly, it spreads the heat from controller to NAND chips. It's pointless. ... Well, then, you might be promoted to think maybe a better heatsink, like the fancy heat pipe one from Sabrent would be better. Nope. Don't waste your money. If your NVMe is getting too hot, invest in better exhaust fan(s), airflow.

90% odds you don't even have a workload that'll push the Gen4 NVMe outside of its thermal envelope.

Do not listen to this man if you value the longevity and performance affects your drive. Mobo, generic or included heatsinks are all better bets than running a high speed nvme with no heat protection. F.f.s.

This is why I never buy used tech items and I'm thankful I'm never in the position to have to do so. You never know what the previous person has done to the NVME but they are still smart/lucky enough to sell it before it dies and you'll end up the one paying the price.
