How's the screen on this one? That's the limiting factor for me, if it is like 250 nits, imma stay away!
Yeah. A dim screen can really be a deal killer. Anyone know the NITS on this? Not always listed on the company website.

Is a lower wattage 3060 still faster than a 3050ti?
Yep. On this MSI low power rtx 3060, I see 20-50% performance increase over an rtx 3050 on time spy benchmark.

Brightness is fine indoors. It's something like 250 nits.

I got this for $850 around black friday and it's definitely a steal, IF you know what you're buying.

Pros
-3060 at $800 is insane
-8gb is 8gbx1 module, so easy upgrade
-2 nvme slots, once again easy upgrade
Cons
-3060 is a 75w card (iirc) so it suffers performance wise. This wasnt an issue for me because I came from a 960m
-build quality is buttcheeks, mushy keyboard, chassis flex, the speakers are on the bottom so I could barely hear anything when watching a movie in bed
-thermals, this thing is like a jet engine taking off underload. I can't explain how loud it is lol

But at the end of the day, it'll run damn near every game and its made me pretty happy

Note: if anyones running Ubuntu on this and figured out how to get 2 monitors working shoot me a message 😂

How hot does it get
On stock settings it easily get over 90 degree C without any gaming at all, and it would get extremely loud, all that even when you just download a game (not playing, just downloading). Silent mode would be your friend, or what I did was to go to advanced power setting of windows and set the maximum cpu at 90% instead of 100%.

As the other guy said, it's an excellent laptop with that tweak. I did the exact same thing, adding a 1tb ssd and 8gb extra ram. Can't beat this deal.

BestBuy doesn't do open boxes for MSI. The returned units are sent back to MSI, just fyi.
Come to think of it. I don't think I've ever seen an open box msi. Hmm. Crazy. Thanks for that.

I got this laptop last time for the same $799. It's absolutely awesome, I added a 2nd 8GB RAM. But CPU gets hot while gaming, I undervolt it to around -100 and able to lower the temperature by a lot.
If you have the know-how... you might want to replace the thermal paste.
MSI laptops are infamous for having cheap thermal paste.

I think I'm going to finally pull the trigger on this one... I want a laptop for older emulated games and then specifically ARK evolved. Can anyone recommend some RAM that Best Buy sells that would fit in this? Is that a needed upgrade?

These things run hot and loud just be aware. Solid laptop, but with prices falling on gpus and hopefully before oil reprocussions set in, id say wait.

Looks like 267 nits max brightness. On the low end for comparable laptops. Just something to consider if you don't want a dim screen.

I got GF75 and I wish I didn't buy that crap. At least GF65 supports 4k@60Hz, but I had so many little problems with Windows on MSI, I'd never buy MSI again.

Please elaborate.

I I bought an MSI leopard and it is absolutely fantastic. Better processor and 3060 but no issues.
