Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it
Some people don't live in a house.
Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

This hotspot doesn't support band n41 so it can't connect to T-mobile's 5G UC network which is the network iphone used to pull 500+ mbps.
Thanks. That was a guess of mine, but it was a bit hard to find specs for each version of the Inseego M2100.

The T-mobile version should support that band. Any advice what would be the negative of getting it instead of Verizon besides being locked to T-mobile?
Depends on your needs. If you want to travel overseas, it may be helpful to have the hotspot unlocked, if the proper bands are supported. Or, if you plan on switching providers between AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, having an unlocked hotspot is a good option. If you will be staying with T-Mobile exclusively, then the locked version is probably your best choice.

I'm trying to order the SIM card online and use my own tablet. After I enter the IMEI for my tablet, it shows an option to shop plans, but I don't see these tablet plans anywhere. If I choose the free Samsung A7 tablet, then the two $10 plans show up. Has anyone been able to order just the SIM card only online with the $10 plans (without having to call in or go to the store)?
If it's not showing up, it sounds like you will need to call the T-Mobile business line to inquire. That seems to be what many of us have done, including me.

T-mobile may not allow this plan to be used in its own version of hotspot. But nobody knows until someone tests it.

You can tether from TMOHS1 to any router that supports USB tethering such as ASUS routers

Also, this sim card will work on other mobile hotspots too as long as you know how to change the settings
Looks like it counts towards hotspot 10GB

Would your suggested setup not cause a throttling pass 10GB?

TMOHS1 throttled - they got me late, but it is throttled for sure. It counts as hotspot, not data. Womp, womp.

More info:

Plugged the TMOHS1 into my Gl.inet Mango, and it's unthrottled. Popped the SIM into my A7 Lite tablet, and it's unthrottled.

So basically, tethered to a Mango router you'll get unlimited. Same in the tablet itself. Not so much in the TMOHS1 natively.

What type of speed are you seeing when tethered via the GI.inet Mango? Do you see 5G or 5G UC on the TMOHS1?

Thx.

TMOHS1 isn't a 5G modem. It's not possible to get 5G on it any more than it picking up AM radio. My home is really variable on rates, but IIRC around 20-30MBps tethered to the Mango.

Oof, OMG i have been spreading so much misinformation man, people will read my old posts and get so confused.

Native Hotspot from tablet is full speed right? I am gonna keep it for Hurricane emergency. I am from New Orleans and last year we had no power for like 10 days, most cell towers were town too cause towers also have no power, i think T-Mobile was running their towers with like generators. Still somehow booked hotel in Alabama with my moms T-Mobile phone and went there. I was using my ATT tablet sim in hotspot, it was very helpful.
I havent received my tablet yet, I am unable to sign up for an account either. So since the promo has ended, will it be a risk asking T mobile to convert from TE to TI and ask for free tablet promo?

owlI received my new Verizon Inseego M2100 5G cellular hotspot today.
- tested my Verizon 5G hotspot data plan = 370 down / 68.4 up (cellular bars show 5G symbol)
- (previously my Inseego 8800L pulled = 126 down / 59.8 up on 4G LTE)
- tested the new T-Mobile Magenta Promo unlimited 5G/LTE tablet data plan sim => confirmed the Verizon Inseego M2100 allowed it, meaning these hotspots are still coming from Verizon unlocked
- T-Mobile Magenta tablet data SIM = 80.5 down / 8.03 up (cellular bars showed 5G) (was hoping to see higher speeds based on someone's test in the iPhone 13 with 5G UW)
- (Previous test of the T-Mobile SIM in the Inseego 8800L = 32.8 down / 9.08 up)

* these tests were done near a window on the second floor of my home in San Francisco, CA
@owl: Thank you for posting this and it's good to see the results. I was definitely interested to see how the 5G performance was. There's improvement but nothing amazing.

@lovebeta: You made a great point about the Verizon hotspot not supporting n41 hence no 5G UC for the fastest speeds.

Unfortunately, I don't have any 5G capable Android phone with EasyTether to test. So far, using the TMOHS1 and USB Tethering to a FreshTomato router works well for my needs and doesn't use Hotspot Data.

Appreciate the reply..... Sounds like it's possible to get full 5G or possibly even 5G UC with a used Inseego M2000 from ebay. Doing some research..... šŸ¤ž

Based on fbeuller's test on the T-Mobile hotspot, I wouldn't expect different results (limited to hotspot usage when using straight cellular hotspot or hopefully "unlimited" when usb tethered). For my use case, I need the mobility, so it's not practical for me to carry around an extra Mango router and power source just to get Wi-Fi when I'm in my car or out and about.

Still, at $10/month, I am considering getting a second SIM just to hold onto for a future tablet or second hotspot or computer one day. I'm going to keep my $20/month (20GB) Verizon 5G hotspot data plan for my actual remote work. (I don't plan on using my hotspot for home internet.)
How are you planning to get the second sim for TI? Call, store or anyway way to do it online?

No, it doesn't through USB Tethering.

The hotspot data used was with hotspot through the tablet and using the TMOHS1 wifi.

You can also tether the A7 to the Mango using EasyTether and it's data, not hotspot.
