My theory is the whole "they're being discontinued grab them now" was just a big marketing ploy

These "sales" have been on slickdeals for many years now. They're good headphones but nobody is paying $890 for them
It would greatly benefit the community if you can give examples of your bunch of headphones that may be as good. Thanks.
I have owned these. I have since climbed the ladder to the Utopias. These are awesome detailed headphones. I highly recommend at this price. Pair these with a good DAC like the Fio or similar and you will be a very happy listener.

I dont really have much experience with closed back headphones but the Sennheiser x Massdrop DT1770 is a pretty well rated main stream brand for a similar price.

Edit: Beyerdynamic not Sennheiser
I have both the Elegia & the 177x. Vastly different sound signatures to my ears. The 177s is I guess they call it 'drier' & more 'clinical'. The Elegia definitely has a wider soundstage & more depth. I'd put the Elegias over the Senn hd6xx & Dan Clark Aeon Open X I own. Build quality is quite nice. Absolutely worth the $369 in my opinion.

I got these sometime last year when they were on "sale". They've been by daily drivers in the office and I find myself preferring them to my HD6XX and HE560 v4. They sound better when paired with an amp.
I have the 6xx (along w/the 177x) and this is my experience w/the Elegias as well. I'm using the THX 789 amp. As far as soundstage & bass the Elegias are superior. The 6xx is a mid-range monster though.

I realize I have far too many headphones.

Ergos are quite good so the weight doesn't bother me, even though I'm used to super light cans like some hifimans.

I have no problem listening for 3-4 hours at a time, although clamp force is a bit firmer than I'd like

Yeah, these do not feel like heavy headphones. Weight is very well distributed, I find them super comfy and can wear them all day.

imo, these headphones are worth no more than $250. there are a bunch of headphones that may be as good as these at maybe nearly half the price. i simply can't find a good use case for these headphones. whether you're using these outside or inside, with amp or without amp, there are better alternatives.
It would greatly benefit the community if you can give examples of your bunch of headphones that may be as good. Thanks.

I'm thinking about getting a second pair of these just for the fitted case for my Elex and extra pads for my Elegia.

The fitted case alone is $125+ as are OEM pads. Not crazy about the cables but I don't have any XLR spares and hate bringing my 1 set everywhere.

It's like getting a free pair of headphones with this purchase in my use caseโ€ฆ

I got a pair of these and threw on Dekoni's limited edition Stellia pads. Let me say, as someone who wasn't sure how much of a difference they would make it certainly helped these headphones punch way above their price.

The limited edition Stellia ones don't seem to be available anymore though, looks like they replaced them with the "Dekoni Audio Custom Series". As far as I can tell they're the same in all but name.

Definitely recommend them, the sound profile is so much better and the headphones are way more comfortable.

It's probably true but they are good headphones sound wise, however, the head bands are cheaply produced and have an obvious flaw so they break after a year or two depending on usage. Their customer service is complete and absolute shit as well, like literally the worst and I've heard even in the case that you do hear from someone, they still won't cover the broken headband. All that aside for the price the sound is great. My headband broke and sat for a couple weeks until I looked more in to it and it's just the plastic that breaks usually, and I have a plastic repair gun so I pulled the leather off and repaired it. It's actually really easy and you can use the metal prong inserts that should as far as I understand fix the issue permanently. It's relatively easy to do IMO just takes a little time and the proper parts for the repair are about 70$

DT1770 is a Beyerdynamic headphone, not Sennheiser. Do you mean the Massdrop x Beyerdynamic DT 177X GO? I've been curious about those, how has your experience been with them?

Pretty solid build and sound is good it doesn't have ear piercing treble that beyerdynamics are known for. Comfort is good as well. And good sound Stage slightly lower than sennheisers hd800.
