This model gets some so so reviews, but this price is 5 dollars cheaper than the 4 inch. Please research before you commit so you understand how basic this finder is.

The "X" in the model indicates that this unit does not have map capabilities. Without a map the GPS is not very helpful. Also, these hook 2 models have push in connectors for the power and transducer cables. A lot of people have issues with these because the connections come loose or are not pushed in all the way to make a good contact.

Still a good price for a 7" unit.
The hook series with an x is junk... It's a great price for 7" and down imaging.. my thing is lowrance really made them sorry.

the lack of mapping is fine when you know the body of water. you can mark spots, Hazzards, and plot your course to get back where you came from. problem is the x series have a old processor and does not have a lot of memory. no split screen, the drawing is slow. every change in screen has to be redrawn... a big 7" screens should have split screen... the hook 7 without x has this. so, stay away from x

I would use this on a kayak or small boat. it's good for finding the depths and then fish. I would never put this on my bass boat. In fact I have a hook unit it hate now, lol! Id rather use a Garmin black and white unit over this thing.

Go Garmin for fun fish finders people.

After getting a LiveScope, I dont think I'll ever go back to these. Big price difference, but worth it.

Been running livescope for years and just put the new lvs34 on my boat over the weekend. I don't used it every time. I still have boats and kayaks that have basic depth finders. I try to keep all skills on point and fish without electronics.

The Garmin Striker 4 can be had on sale for $110 fairly often. Even at $130 full
Price it is still loads better than this one. It has a smaller screen but the sonar is much better

Yep!!! I have a striker 4 plus on one of my yaks. It has QuickDraw which let's you create depth contours. Down imaging and traditional can be spilt scree ned.

I don't think this will help your dating life...

I remember you from waaay back with the Pescador kayak, 2014 or so. Man, that's what got me into all of this mess. Tired of fishing on the shore. Got that kayak and the rest is history. YouTube channel, Multiple kayaks, so many fish finders, even selling a product for fish finders... All because of that one purchase on Slickdeals.

It look like out there crap on this deal, but believe me I've done enough product reviews and more to say always legit or not. Even become a brand ambassador for some companies. But again it started with that doggone pescador 12 for kayak that was $300-$400. Amazon was going to ship it slowly, but I went to the sports authority got one.

This exact reason I didn't buy this unit even if it's 7".

I had a Garmin striker 4 for about 3 years or so. $100 went a long way these 3 years. Getting another one for a different setup and looking at the 4cv model that has contour marking capabilities. But that's a tad pricier...

The reviews on amazon are horrible on this model too.

Price is finally low enough for me to justify buying one for my 55 gallon tank

Ffs it took me reading this like three times to figure out the joke think it's time to go to sleep (and perhaps be proud of my dating app choices 😂)

I've wanted a new sonar/depth finder for scanning areas that people jump in the water to make sure there aren't any submerged logs or anything.
Anyone have comments on if this or another budget (since i'm not looking for elite fishing info) sonar they would recommend.

Also the lack of maps is a non starter because we are on a small 900 acre lake.

I got one for a boat that never leaves the same body of water. What does it need maps for?

I had a Lowrance on my kayak a few years ago and it was fine, but I tried out a Deeper Pro [amazon.com] and have really enjoyed using it in water that I'm not familiar with. You can cast these units out using a fishing rod and reel even off the bank of ponds to see where you need to focus your fishing, and I have been completely satisfied with the results. No more lugging around a battery and other equipment to take up room - just download the Deeper app on your iPhone or Android, connect to the Deeper unit, and you have a better day's fishing than just randomly throwing out bait!

i have the tripleshot for my yak. I originally thought the sidescan was going to be a go-to feature, but I rarely use it. most days I have 2 screens up, downview and sonar. i have been exploring using it as a flasher for ice fishing recently, but I havent taken it out yet.
I guess the last word is, nice to have the features available, but not how I ended up using it mostly.
Same here. Got the Tripleshot...used the sidescan. It was cool, but probably not as useful in a kayak.

I mostly relegate to using the down view and sonar as a split screen....so the Tripleshot wasn't really necessary.

This unit would've been perfect for kayak but this unit without GPS is a bit useless IMO.

Ditto on this for yak fishing. Very easy to use with your phone and you don't need to work about lugging a fish finder around, mounting it and providing power.

The livescope is not clear at all I own a 34, i.e. a plus model. You can't really cast and expect the bait to be showed on your screen since it's way too narrow. And fish at the bottom is very difficult to differentiate.
