Saw this under "Early Prime Day Deals" and finally bit. Also, I was able to use amex 10% off; for some reason, it took off $10, so total for me was $49.99 before tax!

I have both in different rooms, and I'm happy with both. I like the Google TV interface more, but the Cube feels a little quicker/snappier. Both are fine, though.

As far as video quality, they're on different TVs with different specs. So I couldn't give you an apples to apples comparison.

The built in always-on Alexa is very nice if you don't already have a smart speaker in the room. It's a small thing, but I can't stress how nice it is to simply say, "Alexa, turn off TV" instead of hunting for the remote when you want to head out or go to bed. But I already have smart speakers that allow me to do this, so it's kind of redundant on the Cube.

One thing I really like about the Cube is the USB input which you can plug a webcam into and use for video teleconferencing. I do a bi-monthly Zoom get together with a bunch of my college buddies, and regular video calls with my brother's and sister's families who live in different states. It's so much nicer doing that from a living room couch than an office desk, or with a laptop or phone. The whole family can fit in the frame. People can come and go as they please. I'm honestly surprised couch conferencing hasn't become more popular.
No. It has the advantage of wifi 6 but cube has more horsepower, more internal storage, and you don't have to push a button to activate the microphone for Alexa commands.
I clicked on Trade In and selected my old 1st gen Fire stick. It gave me 20% off + additional $3 gift card for the device which applied to the purchase right away. And the 20% off is from the original price of $119.99 not the sale price $59.99. I have until mid August to send in my device to trade in.

I have to agree.

My gripe is you can't play music with the TV off and you can't watch something else on TV while playing music.

It's a big issue that causes me to use Bluetooth from my phone still, something I did not have to do with a DOT/Fire stick setup.

Best device for video and I love the Ethernet option, but it isn't perfect and I'm considering going back to a combo setup
It involves spending a bit more money and having yet another device in the same room but if you like the Cube for the ethernet option and because it's best for video, maybe you can get another echo (Dot maybe) just to play the music through. You can change the wake word so they don't get mixed up when calling it out.

Traded in my 1st gen Fire TV Cube (don't ask why I've been using it this long...). As mentioned by others, trade-in gives $24 off because the 20% is based on retail price (plus an additional $14 for the value of the 1st gen Cube). All in all, upgrade to Gen 2 Cube and Gen 3 remote for $23.29.

Order Summary
Items: $119.99
Shipping & handling: $0.00
Fire TV Trade-in: -$24.00
Lightning Deal: -$60.00
Total before tax: $35.99
Estimated tax to be collected: $2.79
Total: $38.78
Gift Card: -$14.00
Order total: $24.78
6% back on Prime day with Prime Card: -$1.49
Effective grand total: $23.29

Anyone use one of these Cubes with their Xfinity X1? Thinking about getting this but haven't really found many recent reviews/articles/etc. that say if this works well with Xfinity X1 as far as being able to change channels and maybe control DVR on the Xfinity X1. DVR is probably not as important to me.

Thanks!
I'm using mine with Xfinity X1. Works great. First you setup your TV and AVR first. Then you add a "cable box" and select XFinity X1 and your zip code. From that the Cube will know the channel assignments for your area. Then you say "tune to HBO on cable", "tune to CBS on cable", etc to switch to the X1 HDMI input and to switch to those channels. Actual channel switching is done with IR. Haven't try X1 DVR yet, but I'm sure that's doable. Just have to know how to say it. The only downside is you're at the mercy of Amazon as far which channel it gives you. For example, in my area, "tune to HBO 2" selects a 4x3 HBO 2 screen. Would be nice if you can customize the channel assignments, but you can't. But you can always say "tune to channel 10 on cable", etc.

And you can also say "Home" to go back to the Cube home. Or "Watch Netflix", "Watch Prime Video", etc as usual.

These are suppose to allow you to change the channels of your cable as well and that's what I'd like to use it for. Says compatible with some cable and satellite boxes but can't find definitive info of it works with Xfinity (specifically their 4K box).

Some reviews say it doesn't work while some websites say yes when I did a quick search.
It does work. See my previous reply.

I just tried hooking up my cube and it won't connect to Xfinity to control my cable. This is are the steps I do...

1. Go to Settings -> Equipment Control
2. Go to Manage Equipment -> Add Equipment
3. Go To Live TV (don't see a 'cable box' option but from the description on the screen this is supposed to connect to your cable box)
4. It asked me if I have a set top box, I say Yes, then it asked me if I want to refer to it as satellite or cable, I choose cable. Then the only options I get to choose from is DirecTV or Dish.

It's as if it thinks I want to connect to satellite providers only. I've updated the Cube to the latest firmware (I think) and still no go. It does give me the option to force connection with my set top box by telling it which HDMI it is connected to but all that does is allow me to switch to that HDMI and then go back, can't change channels.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Anyone comment on what software version this came with. Looking to use custom launcher and don't want to install updates that break it

Do you ever have issues with the Cube not changing to the proper channel when you ask it to?

It's been doing that quite a bit for me since I installed it. Sometimes it types the numbers, not even all of them, and leaves them on the screen (like it forgot to hit enter). Other times it doesn't type in all of the numbers and ends up on another channel. Other times it gets it right, but more wrong than right.

ESPN is an example of one that it ends up going to E! instead when I ask for ESPN. Not sure if I need special settings for Xfinity for it to get to the right channels or what.
