Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

My trade in kit is set for 3 days awaiting shipment. I mean I got the shipped email 3 days ago, but USPS still hasn't received the item. It's a freaking box, how much time does it take. Google is making sure that we can't return the phone if we don't like the trade in value. They are delaying the trade in process as much as they can.
Wow, I am surprised you are doing another trade-in!

You have posted many times here about how they screwed you last time you tried this.
If I would have had your previous experience, there would be no way I would ever do another trade-in.

This is for a friend. I don't have the need for a Pixel 6a. Not been impressed by the phone after using it at Bestbuy.

Yo this fingerprint scanner is infuriating!!! Any tips on how to improve it?

I've watched some videos saying that this has older April patch and should get an update soon or something? I hope this is true. I miss my 4a. Mad

I compared my Pixel 4a 5G to the Pixel 6a side by side. I didn't see anything in Pixel 6a justifying the upgrade.

Pixel 6a kept getting hot. Restarted the phone twice, Updated all the apps. Made sure data etc is copied. Powered off and Powered on. Used Elixir 2 Widgets app to measure temperature on both phones. For normal tasks such as Video, browsing, music etc - Pixel 6a was almost 5-10 degree celsius hotter than the Pixel 4a 5g. And if you do a video call, game or do anything similar - the phone would go over 40-45 degree Celsius. The phone definitely has a thermal issue.

Pixel 6a, the screen is slightly smaller vs 4a 5G. The camera seems to be the same. No unlimited compressed photo storage in Pixel 6a vs 4a. Fingerprint reader on 4a 5G better.

Real life performance of the Tensor chip in 6a didn't see any better than Snapdragon 765G in Pixel 4a 5G. I didn't run benchmarks, but the usual apps seemed the same on both phones.

Now - I'm not saying Pixel 6a is a bad phone. It's good for the price, but it doesn't offer anything substantial over the last generation Pixel 4a, Pixel 5a phones. I'm not sure what Google is trying to do here. Hopefully people get their trade ins and get this phone for cheap. Because for $449 - it makes NO SENSE.

I was going to wait for the Pixel 7 but but the only reason I got it because of $300 trade in for my 4A, which brings it down to $150 WITH Pixel Buds. No brainier from that aspect but fingerprint scanner is extremely annoying. AhHhhhhH!

As far as the phone running hot, I hear it gets better. I hope it does but will see.

Camera is the same, they have been using the same sensor since Pixel 2. Does not bother me, its a great sensor and Google has great post-processing, for my needs anyway. Have to step up to the 6/6 Pro to get newer sensor, I'd just wait for the Pixel 7 if I wanted a new sensor.

Man I love these Pixel Buds. I've never used true wireless buds before, tested them last night on a fone call while dribbling a basketball, person on the other end can hear me clearly. They seal better than the wired earphones that came free with the Pixel 3xl.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that Google will fix the thermal issues with Software updates. No way a phone can run this hot. Most reviewers also noted it on Youtube and it's definitely an issue.
But hopefully one that can be fixed.

The Camera is great obviously. Honestly, I have the Pixel 6 as my daily driver and I really don't see a huge difference in Pixel 6 photos vs Pixel 4a 5g/Pixel 6a photos. Obviously I'm not a photo guru, but for the usual stuff, I'd say Google nailed the cameras since Pixel 2, and using a bigger 50 mp lens on Pixel 6 didn't benefit them that much. I mean the newest Samsung flagship and Iphone 13 take better pictures now, unfortunately for Google.

As for the fingerprint reader, you can do up to 5. I'd register the right thumb twice. That improves it significantly. Obviously the Pixel 3/4/5 fingerprint would be better, but I think Pixel 6a fingerprint reader is marginally better than Pixel 6 FP reader. You will get used to it eventually, but it will never be as good as the ones in 3,4,5 series.

love the new phone so far. Want to get a case a screen protector badly. any recommendations. I
I ordered a Poetic Revolution the 6a... have a Poetic Spartan on my 4a5G.
I'm hard on phones, and these cases appear to provide rugged protection.
Might not be for you if you prefer a slim case.

Why would Google launch and ship a new phone with 2 month old software and inability to put Android 13 beta???

I have had exactly one time I've had to re-try on the fingerprint scanner so far, easily as reliable as the rear readers on my 4a 5g and 3a so far. I made sure to move thumbs around for the scan sequence, and I'm not using a screen protector.

The phone ran hot during setup but not since... this is typical heat and I did not find it surprising. If it ran that hot all the time I'd be concerned, but once everything was set up and I rebooted the phone it has been fine.

I'm leaving the buds sealed in their box until the Pixel 3a credit comes. If something goes wrong I'll sell the sealed buds as a hedge against the loss of trade-in value.

It's actually 3 months old. Because it ships with April update, and the other Pixels have July update, scheduled for August update coming Monday.

I'm probably as hard on phones as your kid. LOL
After breaking 3 pixel's within 1 year, I decided that it might be time to purchase a better case.
The only good thing about breaking 3 pixels is that I had no shortage of phones for trade in.
