is this one of the first general 3% shots fired? i remember when 2% was the target and fidelity led the way.

still not as good as my credit card which is 3% on everything, everywhere, unlimited. i spend 80% of my purchases online so this deal would be ok if i didn't have u.s. alliance

Very intriguing - and the savings account rate of 1.75% is high - but I notice that that 3% card rate is promotional: "3 Points per dollar accrual rate is a promotional value and expires on 12/31/2022, at which time points will accrue at 2 points per dollar." (per the Ts&Cs at the bottom). Still the best percent back I've ever seen; but maybe not worth the credit hit if you have a Citi Double Cash or an SDFCU 2% card or similar. I also see that they charge 1% on international transactions.

According to the fine print, it looks like the 3% cashback is promotional rate right?

Fine Print: "3 Points per dollar accrual rate is a promotional value and expires on 12/31/2022, at which time points will accrue at 2 points per dollar."

if they lower their rate from 3% down to 2%, pretty much everyone will drop them. surely they know this. they cannot possibly believe i will continue to spend the thousands and thousands of dollars on that card; hundreds of transactions and swipes....imagine if discover decided 5% quarterly is now 4% quarterly starting in 2023 (i exaggarate). but i guess they're a small c.u. so anything could happen.

I have this card. I had the old version and ordered the new look card pictured in this thread. They did away with the minimums it was either $25 or $30 in cashback earnings to be credited to your account. They added online shopping 3% category and increased gas from 2% to 3%.

If you want this card now it's like any cashback card where you can apply your rewards earned to a statement credit. So if you earn 3% cash back in a month that is $6. You can request a statement credit at any time.

Note this is the no annual fee AMEX cashback card. The $95 annual fee version has a 6% redemption rate at grocery stores. I do not know the percentages on other purchases or if online shopping is a higher redemption category. (credit to sam for correcting my mistake on the annual fee and redemption rate of the preferred card)

The BCP (Blue Cash Preferred) has a $95 annual fee, and gives 6% back on grocery. (I have it)

I stand corrected. Thank you. Did they add 6% to gas and 6% to online purchases to the preferred card?

Same! The offers have been super weak this past year, and the cash back sucks. 3% on gas sold it for me.

For US retail, it says auto and home stores for the 3%. I assume that includes home depot and lowes?

I love my Blue Cash Preferred for 6x Grocery and Streaming (apple services count too!). The ~$95 annual fee is easily handled in groceries alone. And if you buy gift cards at the grocery store for your other stores without bonus categories (Home depot in my case), then you get 6% for that too!

3% at Alliance is promotional until EOY, according the TOS. AMEX BCE is permanent.

Quoting tos : Points accrue at 3 points per dollar as of 04/01/2021. Point accrual rate is subject to change at the discretion of the Credit Union. 3 Points per dollar accrual rate is a promotional value and expires on 12/31/2022, at which time points will accrue at 2 points per dollar.

If they want more customers, then they should make it a permanent thing and stop with the promotional. That is why it isn't popular. They can't just keep raising their rate, it will cost them money.

Merchants generally pay UP TO 3.5% to the credit card company. So when the credit card company is offering cash back... they are basically giving a portion of that 3.5% back to the consumer. 3% is really putting the limit already. 4% would be a guaranteed loss. It isn't going to happen. That's why any special rates you see like the Flex or Discover 5% are limited to a certain dollar amount.
