Bought it the last time for this price. I love it. Perfect for bringing it places while traveling and not having to worry about damage/losing it due to its price point. I can't complain for what it is.

Previous thread for this item if anybody is looking for more info:
https://slickdeals.net/f/15860113-lenovo-chromebook-3-11-6-hd-laptop-celeron-n4020-4gb-memory-64gb-emmc-79-free-shipping
I just happen to see the other thread. My guess would be because of the $20 difference.Confused
Between the 2 chrome book laptops which has the better chipset?

I also notice the $79 model has one extra USB 2.0 & USB-C port.

Also the USB-C port on the $99 model supports up to 1920x1080@60Hz.

The $79 one supports up to 4096x2160@60Hz.

Went to the Best Buy site and see the AMD processor version of the Lenovo Chromebook 3 in the same size for $10 more here. [bestbuy.com]

Is that one worth the extra $10 bucks? Comparing the spec, the AMD has half the storage (32 vs 64 gb) but a faster processor (1.8 vs 1.1 gigahertz).

No! AMD A6-9220C is even older and slower than Celeron N4020

i got this during the last sale.. I also bought the acer at target for $99 and the flex 3 for $109.

I ended up keeping this lenovo CB 3 and I definitely regret it.. I was going to keep the acer with IPS from target, but it only had 32GB.. I thought I would want more.. but I think I definitely should've kept one of the IPS panel CBs... the screen on this just isn't enjoyable. I actually tend to not use it because of the screen.

if you're someone who truly doesn't care about having a TN screen.. GET THIS.. and save some $$.. if you think you want IPS.. just spend the extra $20 and get the IPS.. it's worth it.

thank you, just saved me some money, and just looked into this.
Direct link for anyone interested Install Chrome Flex on your old computer [chromeenterprise.google]
Researched a little more, they have a certified list on here and when support ends. seems it is called flex but is pretty much the same as the OS loaded here.

I put this on a few old Windows laptops and desktops before Google purchased them. It used to be called Neverware. It works OK and can breathe new life into old machines. It's really easy to install. I think I remember struggling with printing, SD slots and USB ports but things may have changed since then. I'm surprised it's still free since Google purchased them.

Google has a certified list on the link that shows you the laptops that were tested. So i expect everything to work if you pick one of those. i have a nice Latitude that can not have windows 11 installed on it. So I'm going with that since 2025 is the lifecycle of Windows 10.

For anyone who wants to install native windows or Linux on Intel based Chromebooks, this video tutorial gives good info
https://youtu.be/MK8-cBJw6wg

whether if the same steps work for this specific Lenovo model or the Asus 17" model, we need a confirmation.

Usually putting Windows on a budget Chromebook is a bad idea. Chromebooks are nice and snappy with these lower end processors but running Windows can be a struggle. I have an Acer Swift One with a N5000 and it's turtle slow. Probably better off just purchasing a Windows laptop if ya need Windows.

14" one is definitely I'd say a better value, but I wanted the smallest form factor for traveling reasons.

It's now 169 at Walmart. Not on sale for 89.

and here we go beating the dead horse. I have windows 11 on a Lenovo N4000 with 64GB mmc as my daily driver for two years and I am totally fine with it. There are some processes to disable stuff I don't need (indexing, swap, etc) to improve its performace.

The point from my previous post is to get the confirmation that the CB can have different OS installed so they are not like many smartphones in perfect working condition that end up in landfill simply because their software support ends.

RAM is DDR3 unlike DDR4 on the $79 unit, which means half the memory on the one your posted.

I picked this up yesterday and successfully got Linux running on it today. Note that it's NOT a super straightforward process but I'll leave enough here for those interested in this Chromebook for Linux.

A couple of notes..
1. Developer Mode must be enabled for any of this to work.
2. This Chromebook does NOT support the ChromeOS "Beta Linux" feature from within ChromeOS.
3. This Chromebook is using a Gemini Lake Intel CPU -- What does that mean? TL;DR is that Chromebook devs broke Legacy Boot for Gemini Lake so the only way you can boot USB on these machines is via UEFI (which isn't a huge issue, just something to know because most guides will try to tell you to use legacy boot but this chromebook doesn't support that.)
4. This Chromebook uses CR50 write protection, disabling CR50 write protection (which is required to flash a bios that can boot USB from UEFI) REQUIRES OPENING THE LAPTOP CASE, DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY, then disabling write protection via mrchromebox's firmware script.

So.. If you're comfortable with all that, here are the links to get you going, note I'm intentionally not writing out a step by step guide because I don't want someone getting in over their head on this.
https://wiki.mrchromebox.tech/Fir...Protection
https://wiki.mrchromebox.tech/Supported_Devices (device code for this laptop is LICK)
https://mrchromebox.tech/#fwscript

Once you've got the firmware flashed for USB UEFI boot you should be able to write whatever Linux image you want to a MicroSD or USB drive and boot from it. I picked Ubuntu and it's working great.
